Serbia ranks 53th in the GCI 2019.

Serbia has improved its score in 4G investment over the last year. It now scores full marks for mobile broadband subscriptions. In addition, there was also an increase of 1 point for the GCI indicators for Internet usage, download speeds, and cloud experience.

Serbian mobile operators have switched on 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks, covering all the country’s major population centers. This is an important step towards equipping the country with faster Internet access on mobile devices. Mobile telephone providers are rolling out new technologies and lucrative value-added services. Operators have continued to invest in wireless data services, which is opening up new sources of revenue growth.
OPPORTUNITIES
Serbia is part of the Western Balkans’ Digital Agenda. This includes: i) Investment in broadband connectivity, where good digital infrastructure is essential for the roll-out of broadband; ii) better cybersecurity, user trust, and the digitalization of industry to ensure that all sectors benefit from digital innovations; iii) strengthening the digital economy and digital society by supporting the use of e-government, e-procurement, and e-health tools, and helping to increase digital skills among citizens; iv) promoting research and innovation, with national research facilities being set up to develop state-of-the-art e-infrastructures that will integrate each country into an emerging digital Area.
