Canada improved its ranking from 15th to 14th in the GCI 2019.
Canada remains a highly connected market. It maintained stable performance in fiber optic and 4G
investment in 2019. Cloud investment continues to grow as the Canadian cloud computing market
matures. The market is shifting from isolated infrastructure solutions for applications and content
to platforms that integrate onsite, public, and private IaaS. Canada's GCI indicators in 2019 show
improved affordability for fixed and mobile broadband services, plus improved download speeds. There
is also an increase in demand for ecommerce this year, and similarly growing interest in cloud
migration and AI robotics.
Although Canada's score places it behind other highly developed economies, with its top ranked ICT
workforce and strengths in R&D, Canada could achieve significant and efficient gains from
investments by the government and service providers.
