Australia has slipped from 10th to 11th position in GCI 2019.
The country achieved full scores for 4G coverage, smartphone penetration, and mobile broadband
penetration. There was no improvement this year in affordability for either fixed broadband or
mobile broadband, but this did not affect the ongoing high levels of smartphone and mobile broadband
penetration. Australia’s reliable ICT infrastructure has stimulated increasing demand for cloud
migration, AI robotics, and secured servers. In one recent study, Australia was ranked the
fifth-best legal and regulatory environment for the development of cloud.
With its advanced and reliable ICT infrastructure and affluent consumer base, Australia’s cloud
services market has delivered a significantly improved user experience in terms of security and
download speed, per our user surveys. On the supply side, the fraction of companies using cloud has
increased significantly within the last two years. This has resulted in more data generated each
year, and a growing number of newly developed analytical software products. This software is a
natural extension of digital technologies and is the key to the adoption of more advanced
technologies such as IoT.
