Argentina ranks 48th in the GCI 2019.
Argentina’s performance in 4G investment was better than the global average for 2019. Mobile
broadband was more affordable than before, and so mobile Internet subscriptions and Internet use
were generally up this year.
The country is made up of 2,296 municipalities distributed in a huge and diverse territory. In 2019,
investment increased in ICT, 4G and cloud. To expand digital inclusion, this positive trend should
continue. The cost of accessing the Internet could be further brought down by introducing more
competition in the telecom market. This would benefit the public and promote online activity and the
further development of online content, e-commerce, and the Internet for business use.
Although Argentina’s GCI supply-side scores have improved because of increased investment, studies
have shown that the country has a poor track record in protecting and enforcing intellectual
property rights relevant to cloud computing. Progress in ICT law remains necessary. Cloud investment
ticked up one point this year, while ICT law remained stuck at 5 points.
