Belarus’s IT industry stands out for its steady growth in revenues, exports, workforce, and other indicators. Digital government and the digital economy will be the key focus for coming initiatives. Financing is one important factor. All the government agencies will step up efforts in this area. Currently, digital services are available in healthcare, employment services, transport, environmental management, and the retail industry.

Access to the Internet is vital for IT companies. Since Belarus is not very large, it is easy for telecommunications companies to deliver good access to data networks and to make improvements in the quality and scope of their services on an ongoing basis. The data and network infrastructure need ongoing improvements and upgrades, so that they can offer better quality communications and a higher speed of data transmission for subscribers throughout the country. The ICT sector in Belarus continues to develop and the country has been called the “Silicon Valley of Eastern Europe” since 2016. The government’s latest programs to foster Belarus’ digital economy demonstrate that it understands the relationship between increased Internet access and a growing economy; however, Belarus seems to be following the China model of connecting citizens while tightly controlling online spaces. The state program for innovation 2016-2020 includes actively developing the ICT industry.
