Romania ranks 37th in GCI 2019.
Romania’s GCI scores for indicators assessing demand and user experience were higher than the global
average this year. However, its supply and potential scores still lag behind the global average.
FTTH and 4G investment both improved over last. Romania now scores maximum for smartphone
penetration and use of mobile broadband. This gives Romania a solid foundation to develop its ICT
sector further, particularly with improvements in e-government user experience, download speeds, and
Internet use.
Cloud services ensure that IT resources are affordable and scalable. They offer excellent value to
small businesses, which can grow without investing heavily in IT systems. The GCI indicators show a
growing interest in cloud migration services. To leverage the country's existing strengths, it will
be important for Romania to deliver continuous network coverage.
