Romania has published a plan for its ICT development titled Next Generation Network (NGN) Infrastructure Development Plan. Objectives include a backbone network with national coverage and gateways distributed as close as possible to the end-user. The network should have good interactivity and symmetry in its information flows, so that there is efficient use of transmission capacity in both uplink and downlink directions. Specific actions to stimulate the development of the new high-speed broadband electronic communications infrastructure and to increase access to digital services will bring Romania to the levels projected in the National Strategy on the Digital Agenda for Romania 2020. It aims to deliver an increased Internet access speed of at least 30 Mbps for all households by 2020, with at least 50% of households having Internet connections above 100 Mbps. A draft version of the National Strategy for the Implementation of 5G in Romania has also been published for public consultation.
