Belgium ranks 20th in the GCI 2019, the same as last year.
Belgium has performed impressively, with the majority of its indicators above the global average. It
is firmly in the cluster of high-performing countries. 4G coverage has improved since last year, and
there has been more investment in cloud computing and AI. Belgian businesses effectively exploit the
possibilities offered by ecommerce, social media, and cloud-based applications. This has boosted
data creation and the demand for cloud migration. The number of organizations that use cloud
solutions continues to rise, and likewise for secured servers and the demand for AI. The number of
cloud solutions as a percentage of all IT applications is also increasing. This is a trend across
all types of organization with more momentum gained in the adoption of cloud solutions over the last
few years. In 2010, only 13% of Belgian organizations used one or more cloud solution. By 2018, that
number was 64%. This means more than a 500% increase. (Source: the Belgium Cloud Barometer)
