Spain improved its ranking from 23th to 22th in the GCI 2019.
The most impressive improvement comes from the rapid improvements in its broadband networks.
Investment in telecom, FTTH, and 4G has progressively ramped up, and at the same time, smartphone
and mobile broadband penetration have grown to the maximum, receiving full scores in the GCI
assessment. Growing demand for cloud migration, and improvements in the cloud computing user
experience will induce the development of more advanced technologies such as IoT and AI.
More potential could lie in high tech enablers such as cloud services. According to the GCI
indicators, Spain's ICT is performing above global average levels. The high connectivity and high
mobile phone penetration rates will provide an excellent basis for embracing various IoT use cases,
and the markets will be highly receptive to new technologies in the short term.
