The United Arab Emirates ranks 23rd in the GCI 2019.
The broadband market in the UAE is one of the most advanced, both regionally and globally. It scored
full marks on the FTTH indicator and jumped two points over last year for 4G coverage. Full scores
were also awarded for smartphone penetration and mobile broadband subscriptions. In terms of high
tech enablers, there has been an improvement in the user experience with IoT analytics.
The UAE government, at both the federal and the emirate levels, has been proactive in the digital
economy and digital media, with programs to encourage computer and Internet use. With ICT that
outperforms its neighbors and most countries around the globe, the UAE should further build its
range of advanced technology usage scenarios, such as cloud services, and improve the corresponding
user experience. A good proportion of companies have adopted cloud solutions. Now the UAE should
encourage the delivery of cloud services that support the changing needs of their customers. This
could help build knowledge and understanding of the Internet among the public and stimulate more
demand.
