Huawei’s “Seeds for the Future” sends 3rd batch of Myanmar students to China to learn more about cutting-edge ICT technology

[Yangon, Myanmar, May 3, 2019] Seeds for the Future, an annual initiative by Huawei organized in support of the development of Myanmar’s information and communications technology (ICT) industry talent, returns this year as a third batch of 10 outstanding Myanmar students were selected from computer and technological universities across Myanmar to embark on an educational program visit to China. Coordinated in partnership with Myanmar’s Ministry of Education, National Education Policy Commission and Rectors’ Committee, the start of the program was marked today by an event hosted at the Huawei Customer Solution Innovation Center, Yangon.

The selected students will head to China for two weeks from 4th May to 17th May 2019 and experience cross-culture in Beijing for a week, before learning about cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, AI, cloud computing and exploring Telecommunication Network in Shenzhen Huawei Headquarter the following week.

Seeds for the Future, a global flagship CSR program of Huawei, aims to foster local ICT talents, enhance knowledge transfer, promote a better understanding and interest in ICT sector, and improve and encourage regional building and participation in the digital community. One of the six areas of collaboration under the current 3-year Memorandum of Understanding for ICT Talent Development Program signed between Huawei and the Rectors’ Committee, Ministry of Education, it started in Myanmar in 2017, 30 Myanmar students including this batch, have to-date been selected for this program which globally, has included more than 4,700 students from over 400 universities worldwide. The students are given the amazing opportunity to immerse themselves in different culture whilst studying the most innovative technology solutions from Huawei’s most advanced laboratory.

Mr. Zhang Liman, CEO of Huawei Myanmar, said, “Since 2017, we have supported Myanmar university students gain cross-cultural work experience and exposure to the latest innovations in ICT. We are pleased to be organizing the 3rd program this year, through which we have so far sent 30 promising talents to China. In a country which relies heavily on ICT to fulfill its ambitious future development plans, it is the next generation of youth that will be the best hope in realizing a future digital world. Cultivating talents which are the most needed in ICT industry for growth will improve Myanmar’s prospects, and catalyze further development in different sectors and build a foundation of a prosperous digital economy. Huawei hopes these students go on to become confident and highly-skilled ICT professionals that will elevate Myanmar’s ICT landscape.”

You are the future of Myanmar ICT and that’s why I think starting from now you must try hard and you have to think of development of ICT in Myanmar. Now, this is the opportunity for you to see the ICT in china and see how Huawei is working and how they are organizing. And, this is an opportunity for you individually. Based on that, you can help us to develop our universities and in Myanmar.  That’s why I also like to say thanks Huawei for all these organizing and giving the chance for Myanmar students and Myanmar universities. That’s will be very helpful for us in future.”

Ma Phue Pwint Thae Khaing, representative of the third batch students, said, “The knowledge and experiences gained from our seniors, alumni of this program, inspired us to participate and improve our skills and knowledge about ICT technology. We cannot find the words to express our appreciation for being chosen for this program. We believe this rare opportunity will give us an advantage for our future learning and career development. With the skills we learn, we will be better equipped to do our part in driving a digital Myanmar.”

With Myanmar’s telecommunications industry facing a high demand for ICT talent, Huawei is committed to continuing its efforts to enhance its development and in turn, the progress of the country’s ICT sector. To address these challenges, Huawei initiated HAINA (Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy), ICT Talent Scholarships to 50 selected students from computer and technological universities across the country to support their education journey, the Seeds for the Future program and an internship program at Huawei Myanmar to offer valuable working experience to young talents at the world leading ICT company and develop more technical resources to support the Golden Land’s ICT scene.
