Huawei SEA Announces 2018 Procurement Results of USD 608 Million, expected up to USD 652 Million in 2019
[Bangkok, 14 March 2019] Huawei, a leading global provider of ICT infrastructure and smart devices, recently announced its 2018 procurement results for the SEA region[1], at its 2019 SEA Core Partner Convention, held at The Conrad Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand last week. Of the total recorded procurement amount of USD 608 million in 2018, which includes figures reported by Huawei’s respective country offices from its work and partnerships with organizations around the region, Thailand topped the list at USD 196.3 million, followed by India (USD 146 million) and Hong Kong (USD 105.3 million). From 2016 to 2018, total procurement in the region amounted to USD 2.09 billion.
In Myanmar, Huawei managed to achieve a noteworthy procurement figure of USD 60.8 million in 2018, coming ahead of its offices in other nearby countries such as Bangladesh (USD 29.3 million), Vietnam (USD 15.8 million) and Cambodia (USD 6.1 million). The forecast procurement budget for the SEA region in 2019 is expected to grow further, at USD 652 million.
These dynamic figures were revealed during the event themed, “Openness, Transparency, Collaboration for Sharing the Success”. It gathered over 400 delegates from the company’s 1,900+ suppliers in the SEA region, representing various industries such as production, logistics, engineering services, enterprise network, marketing, and others.
Keynote addresses and presentations included a welcome speech by Mr. James Wu, President of Huawei SEA, an introduction to Huawei businesses, customer achievements and procurement data in the SEA region. Several Huawei strategic partners such as Turnkey Communications Services (TKC) and Cummins DKSH, from Thailand, shared their experiences with their colleagues. Several companies received an award for their outstanding collaboration with Huawei in the following categories: Admin Purchase, Engineering Service Purchase and Material Purchase.
Huawei Myanmar Partner companies also attended this event. Daw Phyu Phyu Win, CEO of ABC Telecom Company said, “It’s been a long time working together with Huawei. We learn a lot as Huawei is always teaching us. Moreover, it always considers having manual benefits. It’s a very good vendor for us and very thankful for working together”.
U Chan Nyein Zaw, CEO of Elite Tech Manufacturing Co.Ltd said “We’ve been working together with Huawei since 2009. There are many businesses, collaborating with Huawei until now. We are trying to work together to have win- win situation”.
In the past 3 years, Huawei’s collaboration with its 1,900+ partners generated more than 45,000 work positions in its suppliers’ companies. More than 125,000 telecom engineers were trained in the region, with over 98,000 receiving professional certifications. Huawei implemented more than 300 quality system inspections at its mainstream partners, helping over 130 companies pass ISO or other relevant certifications.

Mr. Jason Feng, Global Strategic Account Manager at Cummins, the world's leading industrial engine manufacturer, declared: “Because of the strategic vision that makes people’s lives better by unleashing the power of a unified and strong partnership, Huawei and Cummins have joined a Global Cooperation Agreement since 2008. 2019 is the year of 5G. As the most important national ICT infrastructure, 5G will provide Southeast Asia with industry opportunities worth 1.2 trillion USD. In the region, the number of 5G subscribers will top 80 million, Internet traffic will increase 5 times, over 20 smart cities are on the way, and wireless, digital and intelligent equipment will boost social productivity by 4–8% on average.
