F5G Enables Giga City Construction in Indonesia, Huawei Executive says

Dec 21, 2023

[Solo, Indonesia, December 21, 2023] The Indonesian Telematics Society (MASTEL), together with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs (CMEA), Ministry of Communications and Informatics (KOMINFO), Surakarta City Government, Solo Technopark, the Indonesian Telecommunications Fiber Network Operators Association (APJATEL), and Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), held a Giga City Summit & First Giga City Solo launch event on December 21. It gathered industry partners such as operators, industry organizations, standards experts, and enterprise customers to discuss how to efficiently build 514 Giga cities as required by the Indonesia Digital Vision 2030 & 2045. At the site, Huawei FTTR (Fiber To The Room) was used to deploy a gigabit all-optical network, marking the first commercial use of FTTR in an Indonesian campus scenario. During the summit, APJATEL, KOMINFO and MASTEL jointly released their White Paper named ‘Giga City Infrastructure Best Practice, Towards the Indonesia Digital Vision 2030 & 2045' containing Giga optical network specifications, providing an important reference for how to build a Giga City.

Kim Jin, Vice President of the Huawei Optical Business Product Line, delivered a keynote speech entitled "F5G Enables Giga City Construction in Indonesia" at the summit. Jin said that the F5G gigabit all-optical network can help operators efficiently deploy ubiquitous fiber infrastructure, build DC-centric island interconnection networks, build a latency circle of 1-8-20 ms (see explanation below), improve home user experience, and promote enterprise digital transformation and upgrade, thereby boosting Indonesia's digital economy.

Four Scenario-Specific Innovative F5G Solutions Accelerate Giga City Construction in Indonesia

In terms of gigabit homes, 4K and 8K ultra-HD videos are becoming popular, requiring home broadband to be upgraded to 100 Mbps or even 1000 Mbps. Huawei Flex-PON+ integrates seven modes, including GPON and 10G PON. It helps operators smoothly upgrade home broadband from 100 Mbps to 1000 Mbps, and reduces the TCO by 20%. With the digital user experience platform, the OPEX is also reduced by 10%.

In terms of fiber deployment, Huawei's DQ ODN solution features QuickConnect and digital management technologies, and can be directly deployed on operators' live network facilities, improving optical fiber deployment efficiency by 50% as it does not require lengthy right of way (ROW) acquisition or complex and repeated construction of pole sites. In addition, the solution provides coverage for remote areas, makes the passive optical network visible and manageable, and reduces the network construction CAPEX and OPEX by 30%.

In gigabit campus and industrial application scenarios, digital classrooms, telemedicine, and live streaming studios require high bandwidth and low latency, while smart manufacturing requires high reliability and low latency. Huawei's innovative solutions, such as FTTO, FTTM, and FTTR, extend optical fibers to offices, rooms, and machines, achieving fiber to every industry and accelerating digital transformation.

In terms of DC-centric interconnection networks, with the rapid growth of data centers and cloud services in Indonesia, it has become a strategic requirement to interconnect the thousands of islands across the country and provide 99.9999% high-availability networks for data centers. Huawei's F5G all-optical network solution leverages 3D Mesh all-optical switch networking to support Indonesia's construction of 1-8-20 ms network latency circles, that is, 1 ms latency circle in the capital, 8 ms latency circle in Java Island, and 20 ms latency circle in Southeast Asia. The solution ensures the collaborative development of giga city infrastructure.

According to Jin, the F5G all-optical network solution accelerates the construction of high-speed Internet, digital enterprise campuses, and industrial production networks in Indonesia. It helps build comprehensive giga city infrastructure covering the giga government, giga campus, giga society, and giga home, accelerating the realization of Indonesia's Digital Vision 2030 & 2045.
