Huawei and industry partners continue to explore and gain insight into the trends and changes of the ICT infrastructure industry, put forward the goals of 5.5G and all intelligence era, and provide action paths to create a better future together.
It covers industries such as wireless network, cloud core network, data communication, all-optical network, autonomous driving network, computing, data storage, cloud computing, and ICT services and software. It continuously identifies recent trends and practices of each industry and provides action suggestions to jointly promote industry development and accelerate the development of the intelligent world.
Global Digitalization and Intelligence Index (GDII)2026
In collaboration with the Institute of Economics at Tsinghua University, as well as scholars and experts from multiple fields like economics, sociology, and ICT, we are now releasing the GDII 2026. By examining the link between factors of production and optimal resource allocation in the intelligent world, GDII 2026 offers global policymakers a practical reference for building their intelligent economies.
Economic and Technological Impact
The intelligent economy: expanding market scale
AI is driving yet another round of breakthroughs, opening the doors to a full-fledged intelligent economy. The Institute of Economics of Tsinghua University indicates that over the next five years, AI will generate more than US$27 trillion in cumulative economic value, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 46%. By 2030, annual global investment in digital and intelligent infrastructure is projected to surpass US$4 trillion.
New factor of production in the intelligent era
As civilization continues to evolve, every revolution in general-purpose technology has pushed the boundaries of productivity tools, lifted legacy constraints on development, driven historic leaps in productivity. In the intelligent era, digital and intelligent infrastructure, high-quality data, and talent ecosystems will become the three strategic pillars for value creation in the intelligent economy. These pillars give rise to a new production function to shape a new paradigm of intelligent economy development.
Building Forward-Looking Digital and Intelligent Infrastructure
Forward-looking infrastructure investment can accelerate technology diffusion. Global digital and intelligent infrastructure investment is entering a critical J-curve phase. Our findings indicate that global investment will exceed US$4 trillion by 2030 and climb to over US$11 trillion by 2035. Specifically, the CAGR stood at 9.82% from 2020 to 2025, accelerated to 19.14% from 2025 to 2030, and is projected to remain at a high of 20.47% from 2030 to 2035.
Quantifying Digital and Intelligent Development with Data as a New Production Factor
Huawei has collaborated with experts in economics, social sciences, and ICT to upgrade the trusted Global Digitalization Index (GDI) to the Global Digitalization and Intelligence Index (GDII). Building on the three core production factors of classical economic theory—land, labor, and capital—the GDII maps these physical elements to their digital counterparts: data, ICT talent, and digital and intelligent technologies. By measuring the entire lifecycle of data from creation to application, the GDII assesses the progress of digital and intelligent transformation for different economies. Our goal is to provide quantitative insights to support policymakers around the world.
