Huawei Showcases UPS Solution for London Underground at Datacenter Dynamics Conference in London
[London, UK, November 19, 2015] At the Datacenter Dynamics (DCD) Conference held in London, Huawei today showcased for the first time its Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) solution deployed by the London Underground, one of the world’s oldest underground railways. Together with M.J. Quinn Integrated Services Ltd., the strategic partner of Huawei, Huawei helped London Underground implement the UPS solution to enhance the reliability, manageability and fireproof capabilities of its power supply and distribution system, which is critical to the Underground’s railway operations.

“Railway operators are critically dependent on their power supply and consider UPS as the ‘heart’ of their railway systems ensuring reliable power for safe and efficient operations for their passengers,” said Mr. Roland Huempfner, Head of Europe Energy Competence Center, Huawei. “Together with MJ Quinn, Huawei helped the London Underground transform its original power supply and distribution system with a solution that met availability demands and stringent fire and safety requirements, while improving manageability and energy efficiency.”
The Huawei UPS solution developed for the London Underground is an integrated solution which contains power distribution, battery and UPS, helping customers save up to 50% of space. The modular design of the solution makes it easy to install, disassemble, transport and maintain. In addition, the solution offers remote monitoring and visualized management of more than 1,000 UPSs’ connected to the network by leveraging Huawei NetEco network management system and the company’s latest Internet of Things (IoT) solution.
At the conference, Huawei also demonstrated its Modular Data Center solution and efficient integrated power supply and distribution system, which enables modular data centers to save space and improve energy efficiency by integrating power supply/backup power and UPS. The company received three awards, including "The Modular Deployment Award" in recognition of its innovative products, solutions and services in the space of data center energy systems back at the Datacenter Dynamics Asia Pacific 2015.
In addition, Mr. Sanjay Sainani, Regional Vice President of IT & Data Center Solution in Middle East Region, Huawei, delivered a speech at the conference entitled "The 4.0 Revolution of Data Center Design". During his speech Mr. Sainani introduced three core concepts for the next-generation intelligent data center, namely digitalized, intelligent, and networked. He shared insights into how data center components should be digitalized to enable precise and reliable control; wireless communication technology and intelligent expert systems will redefine the operational management of data centers, making them more intelligent; and network technologies will help build intelligent data center networks and enterprise-level operation and maintenance platforms, enabling efficient knowledge exchange.
Big data and cloud computing have become the driving force of industry transformation and accelerated the construction of next generation data centers. To address this demand, Huawei has made continuous investments in recent years to build end-to-end data center capabilities. According to consulting companies such as IHS, CCID Consulting, and ICT Research Institute, Huawei ranked first in terms of container data center, modular data center, and modular UPS shipments in China or even the global market in 2014.
