Huawei Elected to 2015 Small Cell Forum Board

[Shenzhen, China, Oct 23, 2015] Huawei has announced its election to the 2015 Board of the Small Cell Forum, an organization working to drive the wide-scale adoption of small cells and accelerate the delivery of integrated HetNets. The new board comprises operators, small cell vendors, major OEMs and silicon companies. The board is tasked with strengthening and expanding the global presence and influence of small cells.

With over 150 members including telecom operators, suppliers, and vendors from the industry chain, Small Cell Forum is the world's most important industry consortium dedicated to promoting cooperation and standardization within the industry. By promoting standardization and specifications for small cells and initiating interoperability test and marketing activities, the Forum works to drive wide-scale deployment of heterogeneous networks (HetNet), interface openness standardization and enterprise applications of small cells, and continuous development of the entire small cell ecosystem.

Small Cell Forum Chairman, Alan Law, expressed his congratulations on Huawei and Reliance Jio’s election to the Board, adding that small cell technology will play a key part in the densification of mobile networks as the industry responds to the challenge of the need for ever greater capacity and connectivity. “Nowhere is that challenge more keenly felt today than it is in Asia, and bringing onto our Board two local experts who can provided real insight and feedback will enable the Forum to continue to drive the progress of the small cell industry globally” he said.

Peter Zhou, President of Huawei Small Cell Product Line and the new Board member of Small Cell Forum, commented, “Small Cell Forum playa very important role in the development of the Small Cell industry and Huawei is pleased to join the Board and support these efforts. Huawei, as an early investor and innovator in small cell technology, has gained huge success in the global commercial deployment of indoor and outdoor digital small cell systems. Small cells are now indispensable in building a superb experience for mobile broadband networks and realizing MBB network pipeline capability openness and enterprise applications”. He went on to state that Huawei is an active contributor to Small Cell Forum work. In addition to a Board position, Huawei was also elected to the Services Working Group which will be chaired by Ray Williamson, Director of Huawei EU Small Cell Product Management. Huawei Through these two positions Huawei plans to contribute more to technical innovations and the development of a bigger business for the whole small cell industry value chain.

At present Huawei is able to offer a complete series of small cell solutions for both indoor and outdoor applications. With continuous innovation in small cell solutions, Huawei is a leader in this space. As of 2015 Q3, Huawei's small cell solutions have reached to 216 commercial networks globally. At the 2015 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Huawei's innovative indoor digital small cell solution LampSite was awarded "Best Mobile Infrastructure" by the GSMA’s award judges.
