Seamless by the sea: a luxury resort reconnects its guests

Located in Haitang Bay on China’s Hainan Island, Rosewood Sanya opened in 2017 as the first resort in China under the Rosewood Hotels & Resorts brand. The property features 244 ocean-view rooms, multiple restaurants and lounges, an infinity pool, spa facilities, and a 5,400-square-meter convention center for events and conferences.

As guest expectations for digital services grew, the resort’s existing wireless network began to show its limitations. Coverage was uneven in some areas. Video calls and streaming could lag during peak usage. Outdoor connectivity near pools and terraces was inconsistent. For a luxury resort where guests expect seamless service, improving network performance became a priority.

To address these challenges, Rosewood Sanya partnered with Huawei to upgrade its wireless infrastructure using Wi-Fi 7 technology. Wi-Fi 7 is the latest generation of wireless networking, designed to deliver faster speeds and more stable connections when many devices are online at the same time. The deployment provides high-speed connectivity across indoor and outdoor spaces while preparing the hotel for future digital services.

Connections across every corner of the resort

At large resorts like Rosewood Sanya, thousands of devices may connect to the network simultaneously—from guest smartphones and laptops to conference systems and smart room controls. The new Wi-Fi 7 network is designed to maintain stable performance even in high-density areas such as banquet halls, restaurants, and conference venues.

Outdoor access points provide reliable connectivity around pools, terraces, and other open spaces, even in Sanya’s hot and humid coastal climate. Inside the hotel, compact wall-mounted access points deliver strong coverage in guest rooms while supporting smart room devices such as lighting controls, curtains, and other IoT systems.

In conference areas and workplaces, the network supports high-bandwidth applications such as video collaboration and large file transfers. In high-traffic venues such as restaurants and event spaces, load-balancing technology allows large numbers of guests to connect simultaneously without degrading performance.

Faster speeds, broader coverage

The Wi-Fi 7 upgrade significantly increases available bandwidth, enabling smoother high-definition video streaming, faster downloads, and more stable video conferencing for both leisure and business guests. Signal coverage has also improved in outdoor areas and other challenging environments, ensuring consistent connectivity across the property.

The new infrastructure also prepares the Rosewood Sanya to adopt more smart-hotel applications in the future. Access points include built-in interfaces for Internet-of-Things systems, enabling potential services such as smart guest-room management and energy-efficiency monitoring.

As Rosewood Sanya’s IT leadership notes, the goal was not only to improve connectivity today but also to support the hotel’s long-term digital evolution.

“Customized deployment has established Rosewood Sanya as a new benchmark for smart hotel networks,” says the hotel’s Head of IT. “The Wi-Fi 7 upgrade eliminates congestion in high-density scenarios while providing the high bandwidth and reliability needed for future services.”

By modernizing its wireless infrastructure, the resort has created a stable, high-performance network environment that supports both guest experience and hotel operations. The project illustrates how next-generation connectivity is becoming a core component of luxury hospitality.
