BDO Unibank looks to AI (and Huawei) for a resilient future

(July 2024) BDO Unibank, the largest bank in the Philippines, uses Huawei’s OceanStor Dorado storage solutions partly to guard against external stresses – including the ones that accompany rapid growth.

“You cannot expect systems to be foolproof 100% of the time,” says Paul Siy, the bank’s Deputy CIO, in a video interview with Transform Talks.

Increasingly, artificial intelligence will also help make infrastructure and applications more resilient. AI will double- and triple-check the code used in a banking app, fortifying it against various threats.

It will help improve customer service as well. “We are investing heavily in our knowledge AI,” Siy says. “For example, when a BDO employee is looking for a certain policy or certain answers, they can just conversationally ask an AI, ‘What’s our policy on renewing a two-month time deposit?’ We're building a knowledge AI engine, hoping this will make all our employees more productive.”
