Everyday Heroes: Restoring networks post-hurricane in Libya
(May 2024) On the night of Sept. 10 2023, Hurricane Daniel devastated Derna in eastern Libya. Torrential rains triggered flash floods that destroyed one quarter of the city and most of its wireless networks. With lives at stake and every minute counting, Huawei engineer Mohammad Said Elkabeer rushed to the scene. By Sept. 14, he and his colleagues had restored coverage in Derna back to 95%.
