Fish, friend or foe? AI protects an endangered species of Norway salmon

(Nov. 2023) Salmon are a staple of the Norwegian diet and one of the country’s largest exports. But an invasive species of Pacific salmon has been crowding out the domestic variety, threatening it with extinction. 
Scientists in Norway developed an AI computer vision model that distinguishes the local variety from the invasive one, paving the way for the country's Atlantic salmon to get back from the brink.
