Bill Poucher, head of the world's top programming contest (ICPC), explains why tech competitions matter

(October 2023) Huawei hosted the first ICPC Challenge Championship, a training camp style coding challenge specifically designed for champions from previous challenges.

ICPC stands for International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), a competition for university students around the world. The competition gives contestants a problem that’s tied to an important societal need, such as the need to protect food crops without harming the environment. In one scenario, contestants were given satellite data showing agricultural land.

In this instalment of Transform Talks, ICPC Executive Director Bill Poucher, chats with Gary Maidment, Huawei's Digital Content Manager, about how the ICPC came about, what contestants get out of it, and how it benefits companies and society at large.
