Climate change talks: 30 years of “blah blah blah”? No, says this Nobel Laureate

(Dec. 2023) “We could have done much better,” admits Mohan Munasinghe, co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 and former Vice Chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Even so, Professor Munasinghe believes, we are making some progress.

“The positive side is that we have persisted,” he says. “They didn’t stop at COP5 and say, ‘This is hopeless.’”

The key to moving forward, Professor Munasinghe tells Huawei Editor-in-Chief Gavin Allen is to embrace the notion of “common but differentiated responsibility” for managing climate change.
