Providing critical communications support after an earthquake in Myanmar
On March 28, 2025, a 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck northern Myanmar, near the city of Mandalay, followed by over 50 strong aftershocks. The earthquake was felt across Myanmar, causing significant casualties and extensive property damage. Communications infrastructure in the affected areas was also severely damaged.
Following the disaster, Huawei immediately established an emergency response team. Team members rushed to restore and maintain communications in the affected areas. Within 48 hours, the core communications services in the affected areas were restored. Within 72 hours, approximately 80% of base stations in the affected areas had been brought back online. By the 96-hour mark, all key service metrics had returned to pre-earthquake levels. The emergency response team's efforts supported smooth communications for both rescue operations and local residents.
