Security Advisory - Two Integer overflow Vulnerabilities in Some Huawei Smart Phones

  • SA No:huawei-sa-20190925-01-smartphone
  • Initial Release Date: Sep 25, 2019
  • Last Release Date: Sep 25, 2019

Some Huawei smart phones have two integer overflow vulnerabilities due to insufficient check on specific parameters. An attacker tricks the user into installing a malicious application, obtains the root permission and constructs specific parameters to the camera program to exploit this vulnerability. Successful exploit could cause the program breaks down or arbitrary code execution. (Vulnerability ID: HWPSIRT-2019-07001 and HWPSIRT-2019-07002)

The two vulnerabilities have been assigned two Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) IDs: CVE-2019-5287 and CVE-2019-5288.
Huawei has released software updates to fix these vulnerabilities. This advisory is available at the following link:

Temporal Score: 6.0 (E:F/RL:O/RC:C)

HWPSIRT-2019-07001 and HWPSIRT-2019-07002:

This vulnerability can be exploited only when the following conditions are present:

An attacker tricks the user into installing a malicious application.

Vulnerability details:

An attacker tricks the user into installing a malicious application, obtains the root permission and constructs specific parameters to the camera program to exploit this vulnerability. Successful exploit could cause the program breaks down or arbitrary code execution.

The product that supports automatic update will receive a system update prompt. You can install the update to fix the vulnerability.

These vulnerabilities were discovered by Huawei internal tester.
