Security Advisory - Resource Management Vulnerability in Huawei Servers

Some Huawei servers have a resource management vulnerability in the iBMC (Intelligent Baseboard Management Controller). A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability to exhaust iBMC resources and cause a denial of service. (Vulnerability ID: HWPSIRT-2016-05251)

This vulnerability has been assigned Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) ID: CVE-2016-6900.

A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability to exhaust iBMC resources and cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability classification has been performed by using the CVSSv2 scoring system (http://www.first.org/cvss/).

Base Score: 1.7 (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:P)

Temporal Score: 1.4 (E:F/RL:O/RC:C)

1. Prerequisite:

The attacker could access local shell of the device.

2. Attacking procedure:

A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability to create countless processes, exhausting iBMC resources and causing a denial of service.
