Security Advisory-Vulnerability of Session ID not Updating in VP9610/9620

VP (viewpoint) 9610/VP9620 is the multi-point control unit of Huawei Video Conference system.

By testing, there is a vulnerability of “Session ID not updating” in VP9610/9620.

(Vulnerability ID: HWNSIRT-2013-0318)

Currently, official fixs are available.

By exploiting this vulnerability, attackers can login to VP9610/VP9620 as a fake user.

The vulnerability classification has been performed by using the CVSSv2 scoring system (http://www.first.org/cvss/).

The score of the vulnerability is following:

Base Score: 8.5 (AV:N/AC:M/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C)

Temporal Score: 7 (E:F/RL:O/RC:C)

Overall Score: 7

This vulnerability can be exploited only when the following conditions are present:

  1. When user accesses the web page of VP9610/VP9620, inputs user name and password, and then logins to system successfully.
  2. The attrack obtains the user’s Session information.

Vulnerability details:

When the user accesses VP9610/VP9620, a Session will be generated. The Session ID does not update after the user logins to VP9610/VP9620 successfully. The attacker can intercept the Seesion and login to the system as a faker to form an attrack.

Solution:

Update the user session ID after the user logins successfully.

 

This vulnerability is fixed in the following version:

VP9610 V100R002C02B020SP01 released in 2013.5.9
