Huawei’s ICT Competition aims to provide industry with active participants for digital transformation, promote efficient mapping of talent supply and demand, and further develop the concept of a sound talent ecosystem. Under the theme "Connection • Glory • Future", the competition gathers government organizations, higher education institutions, training partners, and enterprises to jointly set up a platform for global university and college students to compete and communicate with each other as they are about to enter the ICT industry. The competition not only recognizes and rewards students' achievements in the ICT field, but also provides guidance and points out directions for their future career development. For contestants, Huawei’s ICT Competition means much more than rivalry and communication. It is a journey to explore the latest ICT technologies and products and to understand the latest industry trends. Thanks to the competition, the students now have a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of ICT.

Mr. Yang Xiaochun, Deputy Director General of the China Center for International People-to-People Exchange in the Ministry of Education said: “China is now actively seeking global partnership under the principles of mutual communication, construction and sharing, and to expand beneficial contacts with every country. Above all, humanity and cultural exchange is the most important channel and foundation and people are the key element. Huawei ICT Competition is not just a program of skill and talent cultivation, but also that of meaningful human and cultural exchange.”

This year's competition excels those of previous years. It covered more countries, a greater number of participants, more diverse technical domains, and above all, presented greater inclusiveness, convergence, and far-reaching influence. Two highlights are worth noting. First, participants can access free courses and learning materials for online learning, and contest preparation. Huawei is dedicated to promoting ICT-based education, building ICT information resource sharing platforms, and providing open and high-quality free education resources. Second, this year was the first time the competition invited a sponsor, China’s Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). The university provided Global Final winners with opportunities to study on campus as exchange students for two months to a full semester, free of charge.

Prof. Tang Tao, Provost and Vice President (Academic) of SUSTech said: “SUSTech is dedicated to the education of future leaders for a global society that will be revolutionized by science and technology, and by leaders, we mean the kind of people equipped with the abilities and insights who should ensure that the revolution indeed serve the betterment of our human world. SUSTech welcomes promising international students with ambition to pursue their study and development here. We believe that the SUSTech-Huawei cooperation will embark on a successful road to the university-enterprise cooperation model of international ICT talent cultivation.”

Huawei ICT Competition 2018 has drawn to a close, but Huawei has not stopped marching forward on the road to a sound talent ecosystem. The academia-enterprise cooperation program promoted by Huawei ICT Academy is in full swing around the world. Through various contests, talent alliances, job fairs, and other events, the cooperation will further strengthen links among schools and enterprises to bridge the gap between talent development and demand and promote development of a global talent ecosystem.

In the future, Huawei will reinforce the strategy of "platform + ecosystem", continuously increase investment, and build an ecosystem enabling platform with great convergence, cohesion, and interactivity, thereby becoming a platform for platforms. In doing this, Huawei strives to provide a solid foundation for an open, shared, evolvable, and sustainable ecosystem, and ultimately, bring digital to every person, home and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world.
