Huawei Launches SingleBAND Solution to Promote Multi-Band Convergence

Oct 18, 2021

[Dubai, the UAE, October 18, 2021] At the 2021 Global Mobile Broadband Forum (MBBF), Huawei launched the SingleBAND solution to help operators converge multiple bands onto a single network in the 5G era. The solution incorporates flexible full-band decoupling and full-band multi-beam 3D coordination, and introduces intelligent functionality to base stations. This enables networks to maximize spectrum value while also achieving optimal performance and 5Gigaverse.

Multi-band Convergence onto One Single-Layer Network for Optimal Performance

5G uses more bands than 4G, further amplifying the bandwidth and coverage performance differences between TDD and FDD bands.

Multi-band convergence onto one network efficiently coordinates resources across various bands. This will facilitate the mutual support between different bands to maximize their respective strengths and improve spectral efficiency. Put differently, networks will be able to deliver the optimal performance with a given amount of spectrum, maximizing spectrum value.

Flexible Full-Band Decoupling for Ubiquitous Gigabit

Uplink-downlink decoupling is a major breakthrough in 5G multi-band technology. It enables operators to fully utilize incumbent sub-3 GHz spectrum to carry 5G NR data, improve TDD uplink and downlink coverage, and increase cell-edge data speeds. Huawei further upgrades uplink-downlink decoupling technology to provide Super Uplink. The enhancement enables the time and frequency domain multiplexing of uplink C-band and sub-3 GHz resources to significantly enhance uplink performance and improve indoor experience fivefold to sixfold. With a 100 MHz SUL bandwidth, a single user can perceive an uplink speed of up to 1.1 Gbps. This high level of performance meets the uplink requirements of multi-camera HD 4K live broadcast, industrial machine vision applications, and other services. Flexible multi-band decoupling enables mobile networks to optimally select and combine uplink sub-3 GHz bands for specific users, improving the average user experience by 30%.

Full-Band Multi-Beam 3D Coordinated Scheduling to Improve Capacity

Multi-antenna technology is essential for 5G, and has already enabled multi-user pairing over a single band on mobile networks.

Full-band multi-beam 3D coordinated scheduling is a new important direction for multi-antenna innovation. It will facilitate efficient coordination between different bands and help optimize user distribution based on beam-specific load, interference, spectral efficiency, and device capabilities. As a result, networks will operate with optimal efficiency while providing an extra 25% of capacity.

Base Station Intelligence Upgrades Multi-Band Technology

Base station intelligence helps predict signal strength, spectral efficiency, and beams over air interfaces to improve multi-band performance on mobile networks. Empowered by intelligent functionality, multi-band features — such as fast carrier aggregation (CA), intelligent carrier selection, intelligent anchor selection, and intelligent NSA EN-DC carrier combination selection — improve user experience by 20% on multi-band networks without increasing spectrum and hardware resources.

"Innovation never stops," commented Aaron Jiang, President of Huawei's SingleRAN Product Line. "In the 5G era, facing the growing complexity of multi-band multi-beam networks that involve multiple radio access standards, Huawei provides the SingleBAND solution to help operators maximize their spectrum potential through multi-band convergence. This ensures the optimal network performance."

The 12th Global Mobile Broadband Forum offers an opportunity for the mobile and adjacent vertical ecosystems to reconnect, rebuild, and reimagine a fully connected, intelligent world. Topics currently under discussion with global partners range from maximizing the potential of 5G, including industry use cases and applications, to advancing the mobile future.
