Huawei All-Cloud Core Network Solution Wins the Best Case Award at China SDN/NFV/AI Conference 2020

Sep 24, 2020

[Beijing, China, September 24, 2020] Huawei takes home the Best Case award at China SDN/NFV/AI Conference 2020 with its all-cloud core network solution. At China Mobile, this solution is used to deploy the world's largest, commercially used, NFV-powered core network. This award shows that the industry recognizes the solution for its industry-leading technology and large-scale commercial potential.

Sponsored by the SDN/NFV/AI industry alliance and co-hosted by C114 and IT168, an activity was held to select excellence use cases about successful commercial deployment in the past year, aiming to inspire the development of SDN, NFV, network-based AI, edge computing, and cyber security in China, and to enable the digital transformation of more and more industries.

At the forefront of constructing a fully connected digital world, carriers have shifted their attention from the individual to the macro. Where once the goal was to address basic communication requirements, now the industry is creating a fully mobile society, while empowering socio-economic transformations through previously unimaginable technology such as mobile Internet and the industrial Internet of things. 5G is playing a pivotal role in fulfilling this shift. To promote 5G technologies, carriers first started to cloudify core networks, while now they are setting their sights to NFV, as it is considered the first step for network cloudification and reconstruction.

Huawei pairs NFV and cloud native with the all-cloud core network solution. The solution decouples software from hardware and seamlessly implements network functions, while network resources are efficiently used via dynamic pooling, centralized control, flexible scheduling, and agile orchestration. In addition, this solution is packaged with advanced reliability technologies, such as 64x intelligent flow control, N-way redundancy, and storage bypass, which yield carrier-class, infrastructure-independent service reliability. No less important, this solution allows for centralized management of the service layer, changing O&M approaches from reactive to proactive. China Mobile has taken full advantage and has used this solution to build a centralized ultra-large-capacity network serving over 100 million subscribers, laying a solid foundation for constructing a more agile, flexible, efficient, and robust 5G network.

When receiving the award, Shen Chengying, Vice President of Huawei Packet Core Network Product Line, said: "Huawei is greatly honored to win the Best Case award with the all-cloud core network solution. This solution excels at decoupling three network layers, managing massive subscribers while maintaining high reliability, and providing automatic, centralized O&M. These advantages lend themselves well to be applied by our customers and industry partners. We will continue to polish our solution, to make it adaptive for a smooth evolution from existing networks to 5G, and to create greater value for our customers."

By the second quarter of 2020, Huawei has signed more than 800 commercial contracts for cloud-based core networks worldwide. We will spare no effort to help carriers accelerate cloudification of telecom networks, fuel 5G service innovation, promote the digital transformation of industries, and heighten business opportunities enabled by 5G.
