SPG is setting the standard for ports worldwide.

Cargo, containers, and Cloud

Since its founding in 1985, Shenzhen Port Group (SPG) has had one big, audacious goal: to become a world-class leader in the marine economy, helping link global trade and supply chains faster and smarter.

Today, the group isn’t just about ports—it’s a powerhouse in shipping, logistics, energy, urban development, and finance, with operations in 36 30 cities and regions worldwide.

SPG operates 16 large-scale seaport and shipping projects both in China and abroad including Yantian Port, one of the world's largest container terminals. It has built and operates 89 berths. Its various logistics facilities span 3.1 square kilometers, and the bonded zone it operates covers an area of about 3.56 square kilometers.

SPG handled a container throughput of 17.44 million TEUs in 2024, and its automobile transshipment volume accounts for nearly 70% of Shenzhen's total, while its tugboat fleet—over 60 vessels strong—ranks No.1 in the industry in scale.

This massive network helps fuel Shenzhen’s rise as a global economic hub. But to remain a leader, SPG is betting big on technology.

Tech-driven growth: a blueprint for modern ports

In today’s economy, innovation is the engine of growth. For ports, that means embracing digital tools to work faster, cleaner, and smarter.

Shenzhen Port Group is leading the charge by going all-in on the Cloud. Teaming up with Huawei, SPG built a cutting-edge cloud platform to serve as the brain of its operations. Far from being an ordinary data center, it’s high-capacity, high-speed, and low-carbon, designed to handle the group’s needs for the next five years.

This Cloud platform acts as a single hub for all of SPG’s digital systems, such as security, apps, and big data. It slashes costs while boosting efficiency, resulting in less downtime and smarter resource use. Since the data center's trial run in May 2024, more than 20 application systems have gone live, including blockchain, intelligent campus, intelligent cold chain, intelligent warehousing, and electronic procurement systems.

Into the Cloud

Shenzhen Port Group's all-cloud strategy involves migrating infrastructure, service applications, and platform systems to the cloud, and integrates information, technology, fund, talent, and material flows. Through centralized management, Shenzhen Port Group's cloud platform has reduced its enterprise operating expense, and improved resource allocation efficiency. It stands out as a comprehensive, highly available, and dedicated ecosystem-level cloud platform for users.

The Huawei-SPG partnership isn’t slowing down. Looking ahead, Huawei will team up with Shenzhen Port Group in data center construction and refined data governance in order to enrich the group's cloud-based application ecosystem, allowing the group to develop new forms of productivity faster, and creating world-class drivers of innovation. This collaboration will broaden the group's business scope beyond terminal operations to an integrated development of logistics services and the city, creating new momentum and advantages for development.

By merging physical ports with digital muscle, SPG isn’t just future-proofing itself—it’s setting the standard for ports worldwide.
