Data quality and governance are key to a successful IoT
(July 2024) The Internet of Things (IoT) will deliver plenty of benefits in the year ahead, transforming industries and society at large.
But who’s managing all that data, and making sure it’s used appropriately?
This question makes data quality, and data governance, among the IoT’s most important aspects, according to Dr. Antonio J. Jara, Chair of Data Quality and the Internet of Things at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
“Data governance is about guaranteeing that you always have the data sovereignty to allow and understand, in a transparent way, how data is helping you,” Jara tells Huawei Editor-in-Chief Gavin Allen in a recent interview for Transform Talks.
“A lot of people are concerned about privacy or security… Data governance is about guaranteeing that you have always the control, the understanding about how your data is being used.”
Jara also said that RedCap, part of the 5.5G (5G-Advanced) technical standards, plays an important role in making sure that ICT remains as sustainable as possible.
“Huawei is leading in the new 5G-Advanced era, with all the new technology like Reduced Capability or RedCap,” Jara said. “RedCap is what we require in terms of coverage, lower power consumption, and more trust” – because it’s improving the management and control of data.
