The key to safeguarding AI: Education, says Japan SciFi leader
(Nov. 2023) AI cannot be controlled in the same way as nuclear weapons and other potentially dangerous technologies.
That’s the opinion of Professor Hirotaka Osawa, an expert on human interactions with digital worlds at Keio University near Tokyo and the head of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Japan.
Machine intelligence has the potential to deceive and do great harm, warns Prof Osawa. But he insists that alongside regulatory limits the best defense is education, alerting people to the risks when engaging with artificial intelligence.
