Security Advisory - Multiple Security Vulnerabilities in Huawei HiSuite

  • SA No:huawei-sa-20160905-01-hisuite
  • Initial Release Date: 2016-09-05
  • Last Release Date: 2016-09-05

Huawei HiSuite PC client software has an information leak vulnerability. The software provides the function for configuring the proxy server. The password textbox on the proxy configuration UI do not disable the password copy function. An attacker who can log in to the system can copy out the user's proxy password, causing information leaks. (Vulnerability ID: HWPSIRT-2016-07006)
This vulnerability has been assigned a CVE ID: CVE-2016-8272.
Huawei HiSuite PC client software has a man-in-the-middle (MITM) vulnerability due to the use of the insecure HTTP for upgrade software package download and do not check the integrity of software packet before installing. An attacker can launch an MITM attack to interrupt or replace the downloaded software package and further compromise the PC. (Vulnerability ID: HWPSIRT-2016-07007)

This vulnerability has been assigned a CVE ID: CVE-2016-8273.

Huawei HiSuite PC client software has a dynamic link library (DLL) hijack vulnerability due to insufficient verification of loaded system DLL files. An attacker can make system load malicious DLL files to execute arbitrary code. (Vulnerability ID: HWPSIRT-2016-07008)
This vulnerability has been assigned a CVE ID: CVE-2016-8274.
Huawei has released software updates to fix these vulnerabilities. This advisory is available at the following link:

HWPSIRT-2016-07006:
Successful exploit could allow an attacker who can log in to the system to copy out the proxy password configured by a user.

HWPSIRT-2016-07007:
Successful exploit could allow an attacker to launch an MITM attack to interrupt or replace the downloaded software package and further compromise the PC.

HWPSIRT-2016-07008:
Successful exploit could allow an attacker to make system load a malicious DLL file to execute arbitrary code.
The vulnerability classification has been performed by using the CVSSv2 scoring system (http://www.first.org/cvss/).
HWPSIRT-2016-07006:
Base Score: 1.7 (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:P/I:N/A:N)
Temporal Score: 1.4 (E:F/RL:O/RC:C)

HWPSIRT-2016-07007:
Base Score: 7.6 (AV:N/AC:H/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C)
Temporal Score: 6.3 (E:F/RL:O/RC:C)

HWPSIRT-2016-07008:
Base Score: 6.8 (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C)
Temporal Score: 5.6 (E:F/RL:O/RC:C)
HWPSIRT-2016-07006:
1. Prerequisite:
The attacker can log in to the PC running HiSuite.
2. Attacking procedure:
The attacker accesses the proxy configuration UI and copies out the proxy password from the password textbox.

HWPSIRT-2016-07007:
1. Prerequisite:
The attacker can intercept and tamper with the communication data between the upgrade server and the PC running HiSuite.
2. Attacking procedure:
The attacker launches an MITM attack to interrupt or replace the downloaded software package and further compromise the PC.

HWPSIRT-2016-07008:
1. Prerequisite:
The attacker can log in to the PC running HiSuite.
2. Attacking procedure:
The attacker replaces the DLL file which HiSuite is dependent on. HiSuite will load the DLL file during startup and execute malicious code in the DLL file.
