Austria joined the Seeds for the Future program in 2014 and since then the number of students who applied for the program increased steadily. In 2016 Huawei Austria established another important cooperation with a well-known Austrian university – meaning that Huawei now partners with four leading universities in the area of ICT and business management. More than 50 students applied for the program and 10 winners have been selected.

The award ceremony took place in April 2016 at the famous city hall in Vienna and the students were honored by the mayor of Vienna, who strongly supports the cooperation between China and Austria and exchange programs like Seeds for the Future. The winners travelled to China in April/May 2016 and got the opportunity to visit Huawei's headquarters in Shenzhen. After the journey some students gave interviews and insights about their experience in China to local media. This year Huawei Austria further increased the national awareness and the importance of the program by continuing an aligned PR and marketing strategy (e. g. brochures, posters, website, social media, exhibition at a university) and further establishing contacts to local media.

In March 2015, an MoU was signed in the presence of President of the Republic of Austria, Mr. Heinz Fischer. President strongly supported the cooperation between China and Austria as well as Huawei and Austrian Universities.
