Security Advisory - Multiple Vulnerabilities in MTK Platform

  • SA No:huawei-sa-20170527-01-smartphone
  • Initial Release Date: 2017-05-27
  • Last Release Date: 2017-05-27

There are multiple vulnerabilities in the graphics driver of MTK platform in Huawei smart phones.

The graphics driver has two buffer overflow vulnerabilities due to the insufficient input verification. An attacker tricks a user into installing a malicious application which has the system privilege of the Android system and sends a specific parameter to the driver of the smart phone, causing a system crash or privilege escalation. (Vulnerability ID: HWPSIRT-2017-03229 and HWPSIRT-2017-03231)

The graphics driver has a memory leak vulnerability due to the insufficient input verification. An attacker tricks a user into installing a malicious application which has the system privilege of the Android system and sends a specific parameter to the driver of the smart phone, causing a memory leak. (Vulnerability ID: HWPSIRT-2017-03230)

Huawei has released software updates to fix these vulnerabilities. This advisory is available at the following link:
