LampSite EE: Huawei Launches 5G LampSite Enterprise Edition Tailored to Industry Scenarios

Feb 26, 2020

[Shanghai, China, February 26, 2020] Huawei launched the enterprise edition of 5G LampSite, LampSite EE, for industry scenarios. The edition is an upgrade from Huawei's leading LampSite 5G indoor radio access solution, and is mainly tailored for various industry applications, such as smart manufacturing, smart hospitals, smart transportation, and smart warehouses. It will help enterprises accelerate smart development and promote digital transformation through solutions powered by Huawei's 5G technology.

5G is already entering the stage of commercial adoption. Promoting the applications of 5G across vertical industries has become a top priority of industrial transformation. Industry applications are vastly different from common services in terms of the requirements for wireless networks.

For example, data transfer requires a high uplink speed and ultra-huge capacity in a small area. Network connections require a 99.999% reliability and an ultra-low latency. A huge number of devices in a limited space require concurrent access and real-time locating. The applications are directed at industrial terminals operating mostly in indoor environment of enterprises. Ensuring 5G indoor network coverage while also meeting diversified industrial requirements has already been a pressing requirement.

According to Marvin Chen, President of Huawei DIS Product Line, LampSite EE provides five main 5G functions: indoor ultra-broadband, indoor precise locating, industrial-grade ultra-low latency, indoor ultra-reliability, and industrial-grade dense concurrency. The solution can be implemented by upgrading Huawei's leading indoor network solution 5G LampSite. Therefore, it will enable enterprises to reduce costs associated with deploying industry applications aiming to increase production and management efficiency.

  • 5G indoor ultra-broadband

5G digital headends with leading wideband and multiband capabilities of Huawei's LampSite are combined with innovative 5G MU-MIMO technology. This enables indoor networks to provide a three times greater capacity. In cases where high-speed uplink upload is needed, uplink-downlink timeslots are flexibly configured to allow for a tripled uplink throughput. In factories, the high-speed upload of up to 2 Gbps in a 1,000 m2 area can be ensured for industrial cameras performing quality detection based on machine vision. For telemedicine, with an up to 1 Gbps throughput in both the uplink and downlink in a 1,000 m2 area, high-definition medical images can be exchanged between hospitals in real time, facilitating remote diagnosis.

  • 5G indoor precise locating

In addition to 3GPP-implemented indoor locating technology, a number of innovative approaches are supplemented, including multi-path enhancement and hybrid locating. This increases the location precision to the meter-level, better allowing enterprises to track and locate their assets and materials. With further development of 5G in wideband measurement and other technologies, the precision will be further increased to the sub-meter level, enabling personnel location with an improved accuracy. Such high precision locating will enable enterprises to deploy innovative applications more efficiently, including asset auditing, pallet truck dispatching, AGV-based transportation, production material supply, personnel-equipment match, and geofencing.

  • 5G industrial-grade ultra-low latency

LampSite EE brings together several ultra-low latency technologies, including Huawei's leading ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) slicing, deterministic smart scheduling, and Super Uplink. This allows the 5G end-to-end (E2E) latency to decrease to as low as 4 ms and service reliability to reach 99.999%. Such leading performance offers ideal support to applications requiring accurate synchronization, such as remote guidance, remote operation, AGV clusters, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). 5G's industrial-grade ultra-low latency enables AGV clusters to coordinate with each other and allows multiple lightweight AGVs to replace a heavy AGV. For enterprises, less equipment investment is needed and inventory assets is used more efficiently.

  • 5G indoor ultra-reliability

LampSite EE adopts an optimized distributed networking architecture and indoor MU-MIMO technology to ensure flexible scalability. This allows networks to retain a 99.999% reliability even when some headends are faulty. Thanks to centralized baseband processing, multi-link diversity and joint transmission/reception are also supported. In the case of signal transmission being obstructed on one headend, adjacent headends will fill up the arising coverage holes to maintain service availability. This means that, in the environments where signals are obstructed by moving objects, such as robotic arms and AGVs, stable 5G links will still be available to ensure non-stop production.

  • 5G industrial-grade dense concurrency

In production campuses with several production lines operating simultaneously, hundreds and even thousands of connected devices work simultaneously in a 1,000 m2 area, requiring varying data speed and transmission latency. Faced with such dense concurrency, LampSite EE allows more than 5,000 real-time devices in a 1,000 m2 area to concurrently access 5G networks. This makes it possible for enterprises to adopt fully-connected, smart applications powered by 5G technology, for the purpose of resource dispatching in real time, product assembly and tests, and many more.

Global 5G commercial adoptions are accelerating, and the demands for 5G connections are increasing significantly among enterprises pursuing digital transformation. LampSite EE will enable operators and enterprises achieve 5G's high bandwidth, low latency, high reliability, and high-precision indoor locating. This is important for them to improve production and management efficiency while further maximizing 5G's commercial and social value.
