Huawei Empowers IoT “GLocal” Ecosystem at CEBIT 2018

Huawei, as technology enabler and business accelerator, facilitates GLocal (Global & Local) IoT partners’ on-boarding and solution development

Jun 13, 2018

[Hannover, Germany, June 13, 2018] The first “Huawei Europe IoT Business Acceleration Summit” was hosted on June 13th during CEBIT in Hannover, under the theme of “Eco-Connect to Play the IoT Symphony”. It brought together approximately 300 IoT ecosystem players from across the whole spectrum of the industry, enabling them to explore Cellular-IoT in practice. Telecom operators, IoT associations, module vendors, smart device manufacturers, software developers, incubators, and representatives from vertical industries were among those discussing replicable commercial use cases for smart city, smart industry and smart life.

Gang Dong, Vice President of Huawei West European Region

At the opening speech of the summit, Gang Dong, Huawei’s Vice President of the West European Region, underlined Huawei’s commitment to IoT ecosystem expansion. Huawei forecasts that by the end of 2018 there will be more than 100 live NB-IoT networks and 150 million connected devices. While the massive number of connections is expected to enable significant productivity gains for companies and individuals, IoT will need the support of the entire ecosystem to reach its full potential. He referred to achievements created through collaboration with partners such as the first global launch of NB-IoT Smart Electricity Metering in Portugal and the Connected Vehicles project with the PSA Group. He stressed Huawei’s initiatives for ecosystem expansion like its global and local alliances, IoT Openlabs in Düsseldorf, Munich and Paris, jointly commercialized IoT offerings, and the many use-cases expected to be realized in the future. In his closing remarks Gang Dong emphasized that last year was the year of establishing the IoT business, but 2018 is the year that Cellular IoT is truly taking off. He called all partners to join the IoT ecosystem and work together in order to benefit the industry and the European economy as a whole.

Wangcheng Jiang, President of Huawei IoT Solution

The president of Huawei IoT Solution, Wangcheng Jiang, presented Huawei’s extensive global experience with a diverse range of IoT solutions and services. He highlighted Huawei’s capabilities to make the Internet of Things convenient, secure and efficient. Examples include cost-effective device development with Huawei’s Boudica 150 and optimized RF Antenna Design, reliable end-to-end pre-integration verification, scenario-based installation acceptance, efficient operations and management with firmware upgrades over the air (FOTA). An IoT security framework is being addressed through development of the “3T + 1M” architecture. This is a multi-level strategy securing the technologies of the device, network and platform layers with a single security management system covering the control and Operation & Management of the E2E system.

The perspectives of other ecosystem players were addressed as follows:

The large number of partner speakers at the summit represented only a small fraction of Huawei’s overall IoT ecosystem. By the end of May 2018, more than 1,300 partners are using Huawei’s IoT portfolio. Huawei continuously invests in ecosystem development to maximize the skills of partners and expand their markets.

Huawei together with its partners and customers has showcased new digital transformation solutions to orchestrate a digital symphony at CEBIT from June 11-15 in Germany, the home of classical music. It is also hosting activities and sharing best practices around Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN), all of which play a critical role in today’s digital transformation.
