Huawei Launches AI-OTN and AI-FAN Solutions, Empowering Operators to Upgrade Business Models
[Shanghai, China, June 26, 2026] During MWC Shanghai 2026, the World Broadband Association (WBBA) hosted the 2026 Broadband Development Conference (BDC) Shanghai Summit themed "Scaling Intelligence: Capturing Value from AI-Powered Broadband and Cloud." Industry leaders, regulatory bodies, global top operators, and vertical pioneers convened at the summit to explore how to turn AI and broadband convergence into measurable business advantage in the age of intelligent networks.
WBBA 2026 BDC Shanghai Summit concluded with resounding success
WBBA Director General Martin Creaner, along with distinguished guests from China Telecom, Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency, GSMA, China Unicom, and Vodafone, delivered keynote addresses and speeches. In addition, WBBA, together with China Telecom, China Unicom, Huawei, and other partners, announced the Manifesto on Advancing the Standardization of Intelligent Cloud System, underscoring industry-wide efforts to drive the cloud-network broadband industry forward.
Also at the summit, Bob Chen, President of Huawei Optical Business Product Line, delivered a keynote speech titled "AI Powers Optical Networks, Helping Operators Upgrade Business Models." Chen mentioned that in the AI era, operators can fully leverage their advantages to upgrade their private line and home broadband business models. Huawei has unveiled AI-OTN and AI-FAN solutions to help operators build all-optical networks and ultimately realize the vision of “Network for AI.” Also, Huawei has introduced AI capabilities into devices to implement “AI for Network,” thereby stimulating new business growth in the AI era.

Private Line Services: C (Connectivity) to C² (Connectivity + Computing)
In upgrading private line quality, technologies such as optical cross-connect (OXC), automatically switched optical network (ASON), and quantum encryption are leveraged to transform private lines from the single key element of bandwidth into a multi-dimensional system of bandwidth, latency, reliability, and security, thereby improving the value of private lines. In terms of computing-network integration, computing, network, and model/application services are provided for different industries to enhance computing capabilities with networks.
To upgrade private line business models, operators need to shift their network-building strategy from being centered on traditional traffic models—toB, toC, and toH—to being centered on AI DCs, thereby creating all-optical networks. This involves deploying ultra-broadband networks with 400G/800G to the backbone and 100G to the metro, establishing intra-city 1 ms, intra-province 5 ms, and nationwide 20 ms latency circles, offering 99.9999% reliability, and high security with QKD quantum encryption. Ultimately, this helps achieve "Network for AI."
Huawei's AI-OTN solution introduces AI capabilities to achieve "AI for Network." This solution delivers a wide range of stand-out features, including:
- Fiber sensing intelligence: By incorporating technologies such as Distributed fiber Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) into OTN devices, this solution enables proactive risk warnings for activities such as construction and excavation.
- Transmission network reliability: This solution intelligently detects fiber aging and insertion loss and dynamically adjusts network device parameters to guarantee network reliability in real time.
- Intelligent O&M: AI agents for transport networks implement intelligent O&M, enabling quick fault locating.
Home Broadband Services: C (Connectivity) to C³ (Connectivity + Committed + Content)
Bandwidth is the foundation of home broadband. Currently, gigabit has become widespread, and accelerating the development of ultra-gigabit and 10G networks has become a common consensus. In terms of committed experience, technologies such as Fiber to the Room (FTTR), Wi-Fi optimization, and application acceleration can be leveraged to deliver committed Wi-Fi coverage, speed, and latency. In terms of content, intelligent voice interaction is enabled through home AI agents, while providing smart applications such as smart elderly care, cloud gaming, and 3D movie viewing.
To upgrade home broadband business models, operators need to build a home broadband target network centered on the smart home. This encompasses: ubiquitous ultra-broadband driven by home Wi-Fi 7 and central office (CO) 50G PON; committed experience enabled by Wi-Fi air interface scheduling and network slicing; and device-edge-cloud computing synergy, with computing embedded in home devices and OLTs. Together, these capabilities pave the way for "Network for AI."
Huawei's AI-FAN solution responds to this by comprehensively integrating AI capabilities to achieve "AI for Network." This solution delivers a broad spectrum of key capabilities, including:
- AI-powered Wi-Fi optimization: Powered by AI, the Wi-Fi transmit power, channel, and service priority are adjusted in real time, ensuring premium home Wi-Fi experience.
- Intelligent power consumption optimization: The power consumption of OLTs is significantly reduced, making them more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
- Intelligent O&M: AI agents for optical access networks proactively optimizes network configurations, thereby ensuring user experience.
MWC Shanghai 2026 will be held from June 24 to June 26 in Shanghai, China. During the event, Huawei will showcase its latest products and solutions in Hall N1 of the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC).
The ICT industry is rapidly moving towards an era of token monetization. Huawei is collaborating with global carriers and partners to explore 5G-A high uplink and experience monetization, as well as AI-powered business upgrade, through enhanced connectivity and compute. Together, we will seize opportunities presented by token monetization.
