China Telecom and Huawei Debut 5G-A Intelligent Ultra Pooling Uplink Technology
[Shanghai, China, June 19, 2025] At MWC Shanghai 2025, China Telecom and Huawei launched the innovative 5G-A Intelligent Ultra Pooling Uplink technology that offers intelligent orchestration and uplink spectrum decoupling and pooling. Designed to maximize multi-antenna uplink coverage, this technology leverages the distributed user-centric network (UCN) and real-time sharing of time, frequency, radio access technology (RAT), space, and power resources, and introduces AI to build a wireless service bearer network that powers smart wearables, vehicle-to-everything (V2X), and real-time interaction with AI assistants. This marks a breakthrough for 5G-A networks to better support mobile AI.
Enabling 5G-A and AI Convergence
With enhanced device intelligence, data interactions between devices and networks are becoming more frequent and more complex in content, particularly in the uplink transmission of multi-modal data like videos, images, and text. In addition, applications such as real-time voice interaction and embodied AI robot control require low end-to-end network latency. The development of mobile AI services drives networks towards a highly deterministic architecture of ultra-low latency and high uplink.
The Intelligent Ultra Pooling Uplink technology employs AI models to predict signal channel quality in real time, and also uses AI for time-frequency-RAT-space-power coordinated scheduling, intelligent multi-band selection, RAT decoupling based on service needs, and free uplink scheduling. This improves the uplink capability of 5G networks and optimizes user experience. This innovation allows 5G-A network capabilities to be precisely predicted, reducing latency by over 30%, improving uplink speeds by over 15% and cell-edge user experience by over 15%, all while maximizing network energy efficiency.
Accelerating Experience Monetization and AI Application over High-Speed, Ubiquitous 5G-A Networks
During the launch, Huang Lilian, General Manager of the Co-construction and Sharing Working Group of China Telecom, noted that merging 5G-A and AI is transforming how humans and machines interact from mere information to emotional exchanges. Remarking on this new technology, Huang believes that it will make multi-modal data interaction a new norm and integrate digital intelligence into network services on top of connectivity.
In recent years, China Telecom and Huawei have worked together to make numerous breakthroughs in the 5G-A field. They have completed continuous deployment of 3CC CA in Shanghai and Guangdong. With 5G-A's Super Uplink feature, they have made Shanghai Baosteel an industry benchmark for smart steel production and created low-altitude application showcases in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. Their low-altitude flight route project in Hangzhou, Zhejiang won a GSMA GLOMO award for innovation.
