Five Scenarios of Innovation Drive the African Mobile Industry for the Next Golden Decade

[Cape Town, South Africa, November 11, 2025] Speaking at the MBB Summit during AfricaCom 2025, Samuel Chen, Vice President of Huawei's Wireless Network Business Marketing, unveiled five scenario-based innovations aimed at driving high-quality growth in Africa’s mobile industry. In his keynote speech, “Inspiring the African Mobile Industry for the Next Golden Decade,” Chen outlined Huawei’s focus on new traffic, new experience, new business, new connectivity, and new energy saving.

The African mobile industry is growing rapidly into a core driver of economic growth. In 2024, it generated a total output exceeding US$220 billion, 7.7% of Africa's GDP, and directly created 5 million jobs. The combination of AI, new spectrum, and infrastructure upgrades creates even stronger potential for development.

But insufficient capacity, the digital divide between urban and rural areas, and an unstable power supply hamper Africa's attempts to translate the potential into reality. In response, Huawei has launched five solutions tailored to the needs of the African continent.

New traffic: Breaking through 4G capacity bottleneck to unlock traffic dividends. Enabling all bands to support M-MIMO, Huawei's tri-mid-band and tri-low-band Massive MIMO solutions are powerful options for operators to maximize site capacity, allowing them to tackle 4G traffic suppression and accurately seize traffic dividends.

New experience: Creating a new 5G benchmark for experience-driven operations. Huawei's leading dual-band MetaAAU, powered by extremely large antenna array (ELAA) technology, supports unmatched experience for 5G users. Complementing this is EasyAAU, the industry's lightest AAU module. Together, they will help operators deliver the unparalleled 5G experiences required for experience-driven operations.

New business: Extending intelligent broadband access to the home market. Huawei has introduced Easy FWAi, an end-to-end intelligent solution that supports more diverse devices and accurate service provisioning. Making experience management more intelligent and after-sales services and O&M more efficient, it enables operators to ensure end-to-end (E2E) experience and provide better digital services to every home.

New connections: Bridging the digital divide to guarantee digital inclusiveness. Huawei offers a series of all-scenario solutions, including RuralLink, RuralStar, and RuralCow, to allow operators to extend mobile coverage to scattered rural villages and other areas with insufficient or no existing mains power. These solutions help expand good connectivity to low-income groups in Africa, promoting digital inclusiveness.

New energy saving: Building resilient networks for uninterrupted connectivity. Huawei is the only equipment vendor in the telecom industry to provide a Single SitePower solution. This solution enables the network to provide services even with a power failure, making connections more stable and reliable. This is key to building mobile networks into vital communications links across Africa, particularly for emergencies.

"Africa is a vibrant digital hotspot, with infinite possibilities, particularly when coupled with AI," concluded Samuel Chen. "Looking ahead, Huawei will continue to develop innovative all-scenario solutions together with partners to foster leading networks, vibrant ecosystems, and inclusive services that will empower all to thrive in a next golden decade of Africa's mobile future."
