Huawei Microwave 2T E-band XMC-80D Wins iF and Red Dot Design Awards 2024
[Essen, Germany, July 25, 2024] The Huawei XMC-80D — a next-generation 2T E-band outdoor unit (ODU) — won the Red Dot Design Award and iF Design Award thanks to its cutting-edge product design and technological innovation. This marks the second time Huawei's microwave products have received these two prestigious awards following the XMC-3E in 2021.
The Red Dot Design Award and iF Design Award are globally renowned for recognizing outstanding products in terms of design innovation, user experience, and technology application. The judging panels of the awards gave high praise to the XMC-80D's innovative design that combines easy outdoor installation with optimal signal strength and high speeds — a sentiment that embodies the industry's recognition of Huawei's E-band solutions.

The XMC-80D features state-of-the-art optimization algorithms that greatly improve coding efficiency for better spectral utilization, and a single box delivers up to 25 Gbps bandwidth with dual-channel and dual-polarized transmission. A single E-band link can provide speeds as high as 50 Gbps, almost halving the hardware required while increasing capacity by an impressive 150% compared with current E-band solutions. This capability is more than enough to meet the ultra-large bandwidth requirements of 5G and 5.5G.
The XMC-80D enables service switching through the backplane, meaning that all of its main control service interfaces can be used for service traffic. In addition, its unified IDU architecture means that the product can flexibly scale up and smoothly evolve in a highly cost-effective way. The product features a double-sided heatsink to optimize heat dissipation, and comes with ergonomic handles for easy transport and installation.
Commenting on the awards, James Zeng, President of Huawei Microwave Product Line, remarked: "The awards demonstrate our competitiveness in the microwave sector. We will continue to innovate on simplified backhaul solutions that are easy to deploy and provide ultra-large bandwidth across all scenarios where huge backhaul is needed for 5G and 5.5G."
