Huawei and BT Recognized for Innovation in Optical Transmission at GTB Innovation Awards 2015

[Shenzhen, China, June 9, 2015] Huawei and BT were jointly presented the Fixed Network Infrastructure Innovation Award at the recent Global Telecoms Business (GTB) Innovation Awards 2015. This award is recognition for their close collaboration on the world's first 3-Tbit/s real-time super-channel technological innovation and deployment of 400G OTN on BT's live Belfast-Dublin WDM network.

The GTB Innovation Awards honour globally innovative telecommunications projects and services. In October 2014, Huawei and BT successfully reached optical transmission speeds of 3 Tbit/s during testing. The highest transmission speed in the industry, this feat was demonstrated on a 359-kilometer optical network between London and Suffolk. This test is a new record of optical transmission speed with the highest spectrum usage of 5.97 b/s/Hz, 200% higher than previous usage.

Huawei demonstrated how technological innovation helps maximize the returns of operator investments on existing optical fiber networks and improve the network infrastructure to meet increasing bandwidth requirements.

Huawei and BT then deployed Europe's first 400G OTN on BT's live Belfast-Dublin network. This 400G OTN transmits 400G signals over idle waves on the live network. In addition, it can also carry existing 10G, 40G, and 100G services.

The GTB award for Fixed Network Infrastructure Innovation represents the industry's recognition of Huawei for its continuous technological innovation and focus on addressing operator challenges. Huawei is committed to further investment in innovation and commercial deployment practices to help operators build future-oriented network infrastructure and meet requirements for higher bandwidth.
