Huawei announces state-of-the-art Research & Development (R&D) campus in Bangalore

Proud to dedicate this R&D center as part of Huawei’s long-term commitment to Indian government’s "Make in India" campaign. Sprawled across a 20 acre land; the center will accommodate up to 5000 engineers.

[Bangalore, February 5, 2015] Huawei today announced the launch of its new Research & Development campus situated in Bangalore. Huawei is proud to dedicate this state-of-the art R&D campus to India as a part of its commitment to contribute to Indian government’s flag-ship agenda "Make in India".

The new R&D center is the first by a Chinese company in India and exhibits close cooperation between India and China in the field of ICT. It is aimed at creating a bigger role in the innovation journey of Huawei; the creation of future-oriented technologies, generating patents from India, contributing to industry standardization, collaborating with peers and academia in R&D and supporting the digital transformation of society. The one million sq. ft. campus built on a 20 acre site will accommodate Huawei’s growing software development workforce in India. The campus can accommodate up to 5,000 engineers and includes an R&D Block, customer experience center, large cafeteria, multilevel car park and residential block for expat employees. Huawei has invested over USD 170 million in building the new campus in Bangalore.

Huawei’s journey of globalization began with the first overseas research and development center being set up in Bangalore in 1999 with a handful of engineers. Today, the company boasts of 2700 engineers, out of which more than 98% are local employees including in leadership roles. The state–of-the-art-facility stands true to the superlative quality and project management skills of the Indian software industry. Huawei has established the Bangalore R&D centre as the main development and delivery center for Huawei’s global customers and to effectively support Huawei’s growth from its 46 Billion USD of revenue in 2014.

Speaking at the occasion, Wilson Wang, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Huawei India Research and Development (R&D) Center said, "As a global ICT organization which relies on its own extensive R&D expertise, the India R&D centre is an important hub for innovation for Huawei. The India R&D center will continue to focus on development and delivery of high quality software platforms, components and applications for the various product lines of the parent company. This new campus is the fulfillment of our long cherished dream – a world class facility that will further serve the technology development in Huawei to realize our unique value. This center can accommodate nearly 5000 software engineers, and we are confident that it will play a bigger role in the innovation journey of Huawei; create future-oriented technologies, and support the digital transformation of the society globally. The expansion of this campus is a reiteration of Huawei’s commitment to R&D and overall growth of the ICT ecosystem in India and around the world."

Speaking at the inauguration of the R&D Campus, Amitabh Kant, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), and Government of India said, "It is a privilege to be present on the occasion of the launch of the expansive R&D Campus of Huawei in Bangalore. Huawei has played an important role in the evolution of telecom ecosystem in the country and its investment in new facility further showcases Huawei’s commitment to the India market. This campus will complement the technological pride of the Indian nation, providing opportunities to multiple technology professionals & engineers."

His Excellency Mr. Le Yucheng, China’s Ambassador to India commented, "It is a proud moment for the two countries, as Huawei’s investment in its new R&D campus in India reiterates conducive trade relations between India and China, and further enhances bilateral trade between the two countries."

The India R&D center plays a key role in component development and delivery center of Huawei for the global markets and has ownership of almost all software platforms, components and products being developed in India. India R&D center is engaged in developing cutting-edge software products and platforms in the areas of IP based Data transmission networks, Intelligent Networks, BSS, OSS, Terminal devices and future oriented technologies including SDN, Big Data, Cloud, Mobile Internet, Digital Services etc. The center has evolved as the biggest competence center for global product and solution delivery.

Besides its own development centre, Huawei has significant cooperation with the Indian IT industry through outsourcing software development, testing, and system integration work to Indian IT service companies, that has resulted in employment generation, IT export revenues and telecom domain expertise for these Indian companies.

Huawei successfully completes 15 years in India

Huawei has been in India for the last 15 years and has been proudly associated with the growth of the telecom sector in India since 2000. Reiterating its commitment to India, Huawei just launched its multi-media branding campaign titled; "Huawei – 15 years of enabling digital India". Currently Huawei provides cutting-edge telecom solutions to all Tier-1 mobile operators in India thus enabling almost 200 million Indians to stay connected. Huawei has also been recently ranked 3 in the smart-phone brand category globally and is partnering with leading mobile service provider in India to build India’s 1st 4G LTE commercial network and transforming Indian telecom to 100G transmission era. In the last 15 years, Huawei has also initiated its flag-ship CSR programme called "e-Hope" which enables 1200 plus rural schools with computer labs across India.
