The power industry is a vital industry that affects the national economy and people's lives. Ensuring the safety, stability and sufficient supply of electricity is crucial for the sustainable and coordinated development of the national economy. However, global population growth and economic development have led to a rapid increase in energy consumption, creating significant challenges and unprecedented pressure on the world's power infrastructure, such as the distribution network, which is a critical part of the power system covering both urban and rural areas, connecting households and serving as the last link in the power supply chain.
At HUAWEI CONNECT 2024, Marcio Szechtman, Ex-CIGRE Technical Council Chair, Tony Yeung, General Manager (Transmission & Distribution), HK Electric and Jason Li, President of Global Marketing & Solutions for Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, Huawei explored how digital and intelligent technologies can empower the power industry and distribution networks, promote social development and improve people's quality of life.
Supply-demand conflicts and aging equipment are the current challenges facing the power distribution network. Meanwhile, given the inevitable intermittency of new energy sources, we need to track their operational status in real time to identify problems early. We need to invest in the distribution area. In particular, the low voltage one, because this is the last mile. The reason why we need to invest is threefold. One is the increasing demand from our customers, as now reliability is not enough and then it becomes power qualities. The second is the demand from the investor and regulators. We need to have return to the investor, but on the other hand, the regulators regulate every expense. So we have to invest wisely and to the point. The third thing is the extreme weather. We operate all our operations and maintenance regime. How we can carry out the maintenance effectively to prepare for the extreme weather is the key point. Tony Yeung,

The soaring growth of new energy brings a lot of new construction and a lot of new workload. Because we have a lot of new problems, and then we need more field engineers to come to the site to check and operate the problems. Digital technology can definitely reduce the workload for power engineers, and Huawei aims to provide a digital platform to lower the threshold of digital technology.
