Technology is good. Pass it on.

During Mobile World Congress Shanghai in 2019, Zhang Hongxi, Chief Marketing Officer of Huawei's ICT Infrastructure, delivered a speech on the Leader's Stage titled “Technology is good. Pass it on”.
Zhang Hongxi emphasized that technology innovation can lead to more inclusive development, and more people will benefit from open cooperation and joint relay. Achieving inclusive growth, with a long way to go, facing many challenges, Huawei actively practices technology inclusiveness, contributes to connectivity, application and digital skills, promotes a positive cycle of business value and social value, and appeals to more customers, Partners, governments, etc. work together to act together.

From 600M to 1000KM
My earliest thoughts on the value of technology began with college application. At that time, among my family and friends, some were farmers, some were workers and some were even miners working in the 600-meter-depth mines. Being influenced by them, I chose automation control as my major, hoping to replace those heavy labor work with automatic machines.
Today, when I'm standing on this stage and discussing the applications and values of technology innovations, I think it's not just from my personal point of view, but more from a technology company's perspective.

Vision determines the realm. In 2019, the first successful human landing on the moon for 50 years may be inspired by this. I often ask my colleagues and friends around me about the height required to be able to see the whole picture of the whole earth. The answer is 1000 kilometers. Standing at a height of 1,000 kilometers, we can see our beautiful blue planet. We can't help but deeply be amazed by the nature of the world, we hope that everyone in this big family can be healthy, happy and enjoyable on an equal footing, benefit from technology innovation and social development. At the same time, we face the challenges of common human concern, including poverty, hunger, health, education, water, employment, climate change, the environment and so on. Therefore, the United Nations proposed 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015.
Under the advocacy of the GSMA, the mobile industry is the first industry in the world to respond to the UN’s SDG initiative. Their research report shows that the mobile industry has different influences on different SDG targets. In the past few years, the mobile industry has different influence scores on SDG. The degree has been improved. At the same time, the countries with high SDG index scores have correspondingly high mobile connection indexes, which fully demonstrates that the mobile industry as a national ICT infrastructure plays an important role in promoting national economic growth and social welfare development. As a member of the entire mobile industry, Huawei is also actively practicing to promote a positive cycle of business value and social value
Building a Fully Connected, Intelligent World
Huawei is the world's leading provider of ICT infrastructure and smart terminals. Our goal is to work with our customers to build a fully connected and intelligent world. To help our customers achieve business success and build competitive advantages in the future intelligent world, and also drive the development of digital inclusion, Huawei will play its capabilities and strengths in the following four areas.

First, we're building ubiquitous connectivity. Through wireless network, wired network, enterprise campus network, etc., to achieve the connection between people, things and things, people and things. The biggest feeling of this Year's MWC is that 5G is on. Based on 5G, people can enjoy the ultimate 8K video experience. With 5G, workers can also operate remote haul trucks 1,000km away from the office.
Second, we are facilitating pervasive intelligence. Artificial intelligence has become a general purpose technology that is profoundly changing all walks of life. Since 2018, Huawei has released several phones with artificial intelligence chips. At the same time, Huawei also released full-stack and all-scenario AI solutions, to achieve pervasive intelligence through a series of hardware and Huawei cloud. Our goal is to make intelligent computing power as abundant and economical as electricity.
Third, we are providing personalized experience. In the consumer sector, Huawei will provide all-scenario intelligence; while in the enterprise production field, large-scale customization becomes possible, and the personalized experience is no longer the VIP enjoyed by the minorities.
Fourth, we are helping our customers build a digital platform. Specifically, by joining hands with our partners, we will help our customers create an open and resilient digital platform based on Huawei cloud, to support a variety of operating models of marketing, sales and production and then meet the needs of digital transformation.
Three Stories about Change
Technology Innovation Improves Individuals
This is a story about the prevention and treatment of eye diseases in children. According to estimates by the World Health Organization, there are approximately 19 million children in the world suffering from visual dysfunction or hidden dangers. In the case of timely intervention, 70–80% of them can be prevented or treated.
However, most eye diseases occur under the age of five, and early diagnosis is critical to these children. Traditional childhood eye disease testing relies mainly on manual operations, requires an experienced doctor, and requires children to follow the doctor's instructions. Is there any innovative way to better help these children and doctors?
Huawei and the Spanish medical institution IIS Aragon and the DIVE Research Center jointly launched the Track AI project for the auxiliary vision detection system. The child only needs to watch the stimulation signal displayed on the Matebook E screen. The DIVE system will track the movement trajectory and response of the patient's eyeball in real time, and then send the data to the mobile phone. Finally, the Huawei P30's HiAI and machine learning capabilities can be used to determine the potential vision. Damage indicator.
This is an amazing progress. The goal of this project is to enable untrained parents or individuals to detect visual impairment in children in a faster, simpler and more effective way, just like a skilled doctor.
Technology Innovation Protects Communities: Connection is the Lifeline
The second story is about innovation in wireless emergency communication solutions. When earthquakes, floods, and other natural disasters occur, time is life, and wiring is the lifeline. The rapid recovery and coverage of communications is crucial.
The traditional solution is to provide large-scale emergency communication vehicles to provide temporary coverage to the affected areas. The advantage is that the signal coverage is stable and the number of access users is large. However, sometimes the communication vehicle is blocked, and the height of the base station antenna causes the coverage to be insufficient.
Nowadays, with the innovative development of mobile communication base station equipment and the widespread popularity of drones, this gives us the conditions to send the communication base stations on the ground to the sky, adding an option to the emergency communication solution.

Specifically, Huawei and its carrier customers and partners jointly developed a new emergency communication solution, which provides a signal coverage for the small base station BOOKRRU by means of a drone, and then transmits it back through microwave or satellite, while a photoelectric cable is used. Provides sufficient power supply and communication bandwidth for the drone and small base station BOOKRRU.
In the design process, engineers need to overcome many challenges, including weight, power supply, software commissioning, such as BOOKRRU's weight as small as 9KG, while the weight of the optical cable using the new material is also greatly reduced, the final weight of the whole machine At 37 kilograms; the final base station can be lifted up to 100 meters, covering 50 square kilometers; at the same time, all equipment is ready for 10 minutes on site, and the signal is turned on for 1 hour. In this particular scenario, the coverage area is increased by 10 times; communication signal can be restored approximately 80% quicker. This program has been applied in the 2017 Hunan flood and the Jiuzhaigou earthquake disaster in Sichuan.
Technology Innovation Transform the Ecosystem: Saving the Rainforest with Listening
The last story is about nature. Rare animal spider monkeys are distributed in the rainforest of Costa Rica. Wild fruits are their main food. They are natural seed sowing experts in the rain forest and play an important role in the rainforest ecology. However, in recent decades, the number of habitats has been drastically reduced due to the destruction of habitats, the threat of deforestation, reduced precipitation, tourism development, and predation by indigenous people.
Huawei and the rainforest protection nonprofit organization Rainforest Connection (RFCx) have cooperated to upgrade a large number of Huawei old mobile phones into solar rainforest monitoring devices, and realize the intelligent identification of chainsaw cutting noise through ubiquitous connection, AI, cloud and other digital technologies. Real-time storage sharing.
Now, no matter whether it rains heavily, the sun is shining, or it is wet all day long, once the monitoring system finds illegal noises, such as chainsaws or trucks, it will be alerted for the first time, and the specific stealing position will be pushed to the local rangers to help them quickly. Conduct a search. At present, the land protected by Huawei mobile phones has more than 2,500 square kilometers (about 200,000 football fields).
Technology is good. Pass it on.
Everyone collects firewood and has a high flame. Many industry organizations, institutions and enterprises are promoting mutual cooperation and mutual support to promote the achievement of digital inclusive growth. We see that GSMA has launched the M4D (Mobile for development) and M4H (Mobile for Humanitarian) programs, and ITU & WHO has proposed Be He@lthy Be Mobile.
At the MWC held in Barcelona in February 2019, Mr. Ken Hu, Deputy Chairman of Huawei, announced the initiative for digital inclusion TECH4ALL, mainly focused on three aspects of connection, application and skills, hoping for the next five years, additional more 500 million people worldwide benefit from digital technology.
As you can see from the previous sharing, technology innovation has already exerted value in different fields. However, it is necessary to promote more areas and more people to benefit from ICT technology and achieve inclusive growth. There are many challenges and challenges. From a Huawei perspective, the challenge comes from three aspects: connectivity, application, and digital skills.

Almost 50% of the world's population is still not connected to mobile broadband or the Internet. Even in some developed markets such as Europe, 43% of residents still lack the most basic digital skills. Huawei hopes to narrow this gap, and no one is left in the era of digital change.
This is also Huawei's vision mission - to bring the digital world to everyone, every family, every organization, and build a smart world of Internet of Everything. This is a grand vision that requires extensive open cooperation. We look forward to working with more customers, partners, governments, etc. to practice science and technology and let us act together.
