Huawei at COP28

Innovate. Collaborate. Transform.
Empowering climate action in the digital age.

Nov 30 - Dec 12, 2023

Dubai, UAE

As severe impacts of climate change are increasingly being felt by communities worldwide, Huawei is acting as an enabling force for innovation, collaboration, and the search for as well as delivery of climate change solutions.

We believe in the power of digital technologies in providing access and solutions to address responsible innovation and environmental considerations globally, thereby fostering inclusive and sustainable transformation.

Huawei is actively involved in a series of events during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), hosted by the UAE from 30 November to 12 December.

Among others, these events seek to discuss, examine and showcase innovative digital solutions have contributed significantly to Net Zero, with highlights on cases including renewable energy transition, the enabling effects of ICT for decarbonization and circular economy.

We cordially invite you to join the conversations on site or follow them online.

——Charles Yang, Senior Vice President, Huawei As of last year, renewable energy only accounted for 28% of total energy generation globally. But in order to achieve carbon neutrality, this proportion will need to go up to 91% by 2050. The integration of digital and energy worlds will improve energy efficiency and resource allocation worldwide.

——Jeffrey Sachs, President, United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network and Director, Center for Sustainable Development, Columbia University We need cooperative approaches, we need great companies like Huawei that provide the technologies, and then we need solutions to scale them up. If we really join forces… connect, which we can do, and live in a harmonious world, we will actually achieve the goals of the purpose that we're here, to make a safe, a climate-safe, sustainable world.

——Mohan Munasinghe, Chairman, Munasinghe Institute for Development (MIND); former Vice Chair, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) All SDGs have to be dealt with in an integrated way. You cannot deal with carbon neutrality and climate by itself. Digital technology supports inclusive green technologies, promotes industrial infrastructure that increases economic activity… and will lead us to eco-civilization in the 21st Century.

——Alexandre Reis Siqueira Freire, Commissioner, National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL), Brazil The development of advanced telecommunication infrastructure in the Amazon region shall promote the integration of the communities and digital economy.

——Evan Xiao, Vice President, Institute of Strategic Research; Director, Standardization & Industry Development Dept., Huawei When we talk about green, it's not just about business and economic value, but it’s also about environment value and social value. Standards will benefit all ecosystems, including the end users and vendors alike… we need a common vision and a common method, how to do the green and digital transformation.

——Marina Madale, General Manager, Sustainability and Shared Value, MTN Climate action can be a catalyst for development. That’s only going to be possible if we set clear and concrete targets… The more we do, people will see the direct link between green revolution, green economy and green industrialization.

——Ahmed Riad, Senior Director, Standardization and Industry Development, Huawei These two projects are concrete examples of how AI, machine learning, and data analytics can have a direct impact on solutions for climate action. There are two key enablers across both cases, as well as many other use cases that we work on: technology, particularly AI, and partnerships.

——Safder Nazir, Senior Vice President Public Sector, Huawei MECA The world is not enough! We currently need over 1.8 earths to provide the resources we consume and absorb the waste we produce globally. Cities consume of 78% of global energy, produce of 60% on CO2e emissions, yet cover only around 2% of the earths surface. Carbon Conscious ICT, empowered with the Network Carbon Intensity Energy (NCIe) indicator can accelerate the transition of our cities and nations to Net Zero.
