Between 2008 and September 2015, Huawei has worked with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) to launch the Seeds for the Future program in UAE. Under this program, Huawei has selected outstanding local undergraduates to receive cultural and technology training in China. As of 2015, Huawei has provided training for nearly 80 students.
On September 29, 2016, Huawei launched the program again in the UAE, which was the largest of its kind in the country. Supported by the UAE's Ministry of Education and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Huawei invited six of the top ten universities to attend the launch event, including the Zayed University, UAE University, Khalifa University, American University of Sharjah, Canadian University of Dubai, and Higher Colleges of Technology. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Higher Education, and Hamad Al Mansoori, Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, attended the launch event and publicly endorsed Huawei. As of January 2017, the Seeds for the Future program has received 48 innovation project proposals relating to the UAE's 2020 national strategic plan from 150 students.
Huawei will work with the Ministry of Education and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority to select six projects from the top six universities. Projects selected will receive a grant worth 180,000 UAE Dirham from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and an incubator for two years' free usage, and the outstanding students will have the opportunity to visit China.
