Cloud data centers, as one of the hottest cloud segments, are moving towards pre-fabricated modularity, with build times reduced from years to months. Andrew Donoghue, analyst for eco-efficient IT at the 451 Group, talks to us about the primary trends in the data center market and how Huawei can differentiate itself within it.
There is a general trend towards what people call data center 2.0, which can be thought of as re-fabricated and modular data centers. This new model is about improving time to market, by cutting it down from 2 to 3 years to a few months. Another big trend is energy efficiency, as data centers are usually energy hogs. Technologies such as free air cooling allow companies to forego expensive mechanical coolers.
According to Donoghue, Huawei has a great heritage, which is a strength in the data center marketplace, as it can provide a full range of IT products, including networking, storage, IT and data center products, making it quite well-rounded in the data center market.
