KPN/Telfort's IT Transformation Journey
After five years of success with its NGBSS 2.0 project, KPN/Telfort & Huawei’s partnership is now extending to a new BSS IT transformation project for KPN Mobile Netherlands. Rob de Beer, Arrow Program Director of KPN (ex-CTO of Telfort) has details.
Based on a successful cooperative experience with the Telfort 2.0 project that has lasted five years, KPN/Telfort’s partnership with Huawei is extending under the ARROW program – a BSS IT transformation project under KPN Mobile Netherlands. Rob de Beer, Arrow Program Director for KPN (ex-CTO of Telfort) tells us more about NGBSS 2.0 and KPN’s expectations for the future at the Telfort-Huawei Five-Year Anniversary ceremony.
According to de Beer, the Telfort 2.0 program has three main objectives: reduced time to market (TTM), increased flexibility, and reduced cost. However, to achieve the latter, the old system must be turned off at the same time. The operator wanted to enable a 100% self-service, allowing customers to do everything themselves. “We make the processes simpler and easy to understand. Customers can choose things they want. And also we enable the future launch of applications to make sure that with smartphone popularity, our users can enjoy the most effective network and services. It was a long and successful journey with a good partner because we launched Telfort 2.0 program as we have planned and have happier customers.”
Now the two bodies are partnering again on the ARROW program, which has been defined as a business transformation program. Mr. de Beer believes the key success factor is involving “business” and the customers from the start. “It should not be seen as an IT program, but a business program in which we implement new systems and new products and processes. Organizational change is involved as well.”
