World's Largest Roof Solar Energy Project by Tosyalı Holding Company
Turkey's global steel producer Tosyalı Holding is implementing the world's largest rooftop solar power plant project. The company will be the largest rooftop solar power plant company in the world, reaching a total installed capacity of 140 MW on 632 m2 area with solar power plant projects launched at all its facilities at the same time. The solution partners of this project, which will be a role model for many industrial companies around the world, were SolarAPEX, one of the leading institutions in the field of solar power plant turnkey installation services, and Huawei, the global largest provider of smart products in the field of solar energy.
Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tosyalı Holding Company, said that sustainability is the main agenda of Tosyalı Holding. Tosyalı said: "Our Tosyalı Roof solar power plant project is the world's greatest project in its field. This project will also enable the cleanest steel production in the world, as it prevents annual carbon emissions of 116,525,000 kg. As Tosyalı Holding, our goal is to bring fossil fuel use to the lowest possible level. In line with this strategy, we will start to use hydrogen as a substitute for fossil fuels in iron and steel production for the first time in Turkey. We will use some of the electricity from the solar power plant we have built for these hydrogen-oriented operations. This project will be our main milestone for the zero-carbon target."
Tosyalı Holding continues to inspire not only Turkey but also the world with its sustainability-oriented green steel production they held with nearly 30 facilities on 3 continents and approximately 15,000 employees. The company produces sustainability-oriented R&D projects shaped by technology and innovation. In addition to its cyclical economy-oriented work, Tosyalı is a model for many companies around the world with its investments based on renewable and clean energy sources.
Tosyalı Holding Company, one of the world's leading green steel producers, carries out all its activities from raw materials to production processes, sales and marketing to shipping issues with sustainability in all its companies. Especially in the last 2-3 years, Tosyalı has carried out over 100 R&D projects focused on sustainability, which are the first ones globally and have intellectual industrial rights of their own. Tosyalı Holding reduced carbon emissions by 30 percent with these projects. The company produces pipes with the lowest carbon footprint of the sector at its "Tosçelik" facilities.
Tosyalı Holding's rooftop solar plant, which was previously established by the group companies "Tosçelik Profil" and "Sac" at its production facilities in Osmaniye, was among the top five rooftop solar plants in the world. The company raised the bar with its new solar project. Tosyalı also broke his own record and became a role model for many industrial companies around the world.
Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tosyalı Holding: "Our goal is to be one of the world's leading green steel producers with best cases"
Stating that sustainability is the main agenda of Tosyalı Holding, Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tosyalı Holding, said: “As Tosyalı Holding, we have been carrying out all our activities with a focus on sustainability for many years. In the next 5 years, sustainability will be our main agenda item. We want to be one of the world's leading green steel producers, providing best cases in this regard and contributing to the construction of a more sustainable life. If everything continue in today's conditions, there will be no planet in the future where we can make our job and live our lives. We can always increase our capacity. But no matter. The main issue is to be able to provide nature-friendly products which benefit society, provide prosperity. We have to provide a habitable world for next generations. We are pleased to work with our valued partners Huawei and SolarApex on this project.”
"The world's largest rooftop solar power plant project will be our main milestone on our way to zero carbon."
Fuat Tosyalı stated that this investment includes many firsts; "Tosyalı Roof solar power plant project, which was implemented with the most advanced technology and advanced assembly technique in the world, has the characteristic of being the world's largest installed power in its field. In addition, it will be the world's largest annually produced plant with an annual production of 250 million KW/H. In this way, 116,525,000 kg of carbon emission will be prevented and the cleanest steel production of the world will be realized. Tosyalı Roof solar power plant project, which is the world's largest investment-priced rooftop solar power plant project with price of $71 million, was implemented at a lower cost as a rooftop solar power plant established with the latest technology in the world”
Fuat Tosyalı stated that their goal is to bring fossil fuel use to the lowest possible level; In line with this strategy, he said that in the coming period, they will start to use hydrogen as a substitute for fossil fuels in iron and steel production for the first time in Turkey. "We will use some of the electricity we will get from the solar power plant for hydrogen-oriented operations. In this respect, this project will be the main milestone on our way to zero-carbon goal.”
Huawei and SolarAPEX are the solution partners of this project
The solution partners of Tosyalı Holding's worldwide project are Huawei, the largest global smart product supplier in the field of solar energy and SolarAPEX, one of the leading players in the sector in solar power plant turnkey installation services in our country.
Huawei Turkey General Manager Jing Li said: "We support the world's largest rooftop solar power plant project of Tosyalı Holding, Turkey's global steel producer. As a corporate citizen of Turkey, we do our best for green transformation and contribute to our country's zero carbon target. I am also happy that the timing of this important project coincides with Huawei's 20th year in Turkey. Huawei Turkey has created a strong corporate structure in 20 years by providing support for the development of information technologies and green energy in our country. As a result of this cooperation we have developed with our valuable business partners such as Tosyalı Holding and SolarApex, we are more confident about creating more value for Turkey."
Fatih Dogan, General Manager of SolarAPEX, and the executive director of the project, said, "Today, when the effects of climate change are felt intensely, Tosyalı Holding will produce the greenest steel in the world with this project, which will be a model to the whole world and will reach a total installed capacity of 140 MW. Being Tosyalı's solution partner as SolarAPEX in such a project is a unique experience. With our experience and experienced staff in solar energy systems installations, we will work hard to complete this project successfully in the planned time."
Rooftop solar power plant project established with the latest technology in the world
In the project, SolarAPEX used the 'purlin connection' technique, a different and advanced assembly technique that is rare in the way it is applied in terms of engineering. The panels were installed on a steel carrier system specially produced for the 'Tosyalı Solar Power Plant'. With this method, the solar energy system placed on the roof will allow to produce more efficient energy in all conditions.
State-of-the-art panels are used in this project. In addition to these panels, which provide greater efficiency in less space, Huawei's next generation inverters used in the project will cut power within 0.2 ms in the event of danger, ensuring that security is kept at the highest level. The purlin connection technique applied in the installation and the use of state-of-the-art materials will also turn this project into a rooftop solar power plant established with the latest technology in the world.
The first phase of the project will be completed in 7 months and all in April 2023
The plants that have been installed in the project will be commissioned as they are completed. The first stage of the project, with a power of 85 MW, will be completed within 7 months. The entire 140 MW project will be completed in April 2023.
