Huawei Switzerland receives the INVESTOR AWARD

Beijing/Bern, 15 October 2015 - At a festive event held on the 29th September in Beijing, Huawei Switzerland received the Investor Award during the Sino Swiss Business Award ceremony organized by Swiss Chamber of Commerce in China. This category acknowledges Chinese companies which have successfully established themselves in Switzerland and have significantly participated in the promotion of the Sino-Swiss relations.

“Since we started our operation in Switzerland in 2008 with 5 employees, we continuously grew in the business-to-business segment as well as in the Smartphone business” says Haijun Xiao, CEO of Huawei Switzerland, “Huawei is a fast growing, globally active ICT company. In Switzerland Huawei employs more than 300 people in their offices in Berne, Zurich and Lausanne. 88% of the workforce is recruited in Switzerland.” Huawei provides solutions and services to the main Swiss telecom operators nationwide for fixed-broadband and mobile networks. As a local company, Huawei has also built long-term cooperation with more than 300 Swiss partners. Haijun Xiao further explains:”Huawei is committed to Switzerland and will keep investing in the next years to continue providing high quality products and services to Switzerland“. 

Huawei’s University initiative to promote the Sino-Swiss relations 

To foster a better common understanding of both countries, Huawei Switzerland has launched the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative: Swiss Seeds for the Future in 2013. This program, in the 3rd edition this year, is in collaboration with the key Universities of Applied Sciences across all regions of Switzerland. It offers students the opportunity to understand the global capabilities, to meet and talk to representatives of the Huawei Management and also to learn more about China and its culture. 16 students and 6 professors attended the 13-day trip in 2015 to Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Shanghai. 

“The philosophy of Huawei is: if we make business in Switzerland, we also want to give something back to the public society”, Haijun Xiao explains, “we feel welcome in Switzerland and look forward to growing our business as well as our CSR programs”.

Presence of a member or the Federal Government of Switzerland 

On the 29th September in Beijing, Huawei Switzerland received the Investor award for successfully establishing themselves in Switzerland and having significantly participated in the promotion of the Sino-Swiss relations. More than 280 people participated in the Sino Swiss Business Award ceremony. The Sino-Swiss Business Awards is an event organized by the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in China to thank companies for their achievements over the past years and to recognize their contribution to both the Swiss and Chinese business communities. Among the guests was also the Head of the Federal Department of Home Affairs, Federal Councillor Alain Berset. In his speech he said that Switzerland and China collaborate in numerous projects with mutual benefit to bilateral cooperation. “I am convinced that there is much potential for more collaboration. Switzerland is dedicated to intensifying the already strong relationship it has with China. The awards are a symbol of this cooperation and friendship.

The General Manager of SwissCham Beijing, Mr. Rolf Studer, honours Huawei’s engagement: “Huawei is a good example of a Chinese company which is fully integrated in Switzerland. Their investments contribute to Switzerland’s DIGITAL AGENDA 2020 and help to foster the understanding of the Chinese and Swiss cultures. Congratulations to the Investor Award.”
